Should I update my 4.3U wii?
Hi there, I have been browsing the internet for hours, and couldn't find an answer.
So this is my case, I have a Wii and its updated to 4.3U, I have it for like 2 years and now this is the first time im connecting it to internet, my Wii is chipped (I don't know what chip I am using) so now I want to use wii online shop and stuff like that, I don't have any softmods installed, I had the homebrew channel yesterday and i removed it, I saw that 4.3u is the latest update so I am confused why my wii wants to update since this looks to be the latest update. My question is should i Update via online update, would this do any damage to my chip, would it brick my wii? I haven't used any softmods as i said and I am not sure if i will, i am kinda new, so I don't know why homebrew channel is so important for people. Will i be able to use everything properly if i update automaticly?
Big thanks in advance
The homebrew channel (HBC) is used to load homebrew apps from an SD card or USB device. The HBC is one of the main results of softmodding - and it is how you can "USB load".
Try looking at the links in my signature, there is a "a basic introduction to wii hacking" link that explains the concept of many things relating to softmodding.
May i ask, is there a particular reason you dont want to softmod?
I am not sure why your wii wants to update - but i can suggest something that should work. In my signature, there is a "Softmod ANY Wii" link. You should follow the guide from start to finish as it will downgrade your system menu to 4.1 and mess around with the settings so that your wii will not recognize that it is on an old version. If you need more info on this, let me know - i dont want to go overboard in case you dont want to softmod and this is just a waste of time lol.
So read the "basic introduction" link in my sig, decide on whether you want to just softmod over your hardmod, and let me know

Well there is no reason for not wanting to softmod, It's just I dont know why softmoding is good for. Truth is it all started yesterday when i wanted to play a new game, had no empty -R dvd and it was too late to go to the store. So i searched for usbloader, therefore i found out about the homebrew channel, then the letterbomb, then the internet connection and everything else, took me hours of reading and copying and stuff, so that's why I am not into softmoding, because I don't understand too much, but If everyone uses it this much, I guess i will find benefits of it too :P Thanks for your answer and i will read the links from your signature, I still don't know if i should update or not ;p
EDIT: ok i've read enough so far, I have taken a decission, I won't update via nintendo, and may consider softmoding, thanks again

No problem, the softmod ANY wii guide is probably the best guide your gonna find on this site. Good luck with the softmod and take your time - these things can't be rushed
EDIT: And the best benefit of softmodding IMO is USB loading - this allows you to play games from a USB device which contains the game files. VERY convenient, especially when switching between games.

Yes i understood that, but can you just tell me something. The games that go to the flash drive, do i copy them from my pc, or they get ripped by the wii when i insert the game ;p
Easiest way is to rip with wii. You need a special dvd reader to rip from PC.
And you can rip them using a USB loader - so no specialized app is needed. As long as you have a USB loader (I recommend USB Loader GX but many people support CFG Loader too) you will be able to rip and play games.
