Hi. Love this site. Just bought a Wii last weekend and already soft-modded it. Love the homebrew browser and all the neat stuff.
Unfortunately it's a 4.3u black Wii and there are so many things I can't do to start that I wish I knew ahead of time. i.e. play GameCube games, use Gamecube controllers, etc. I would have eBay'd an older Wii if I know about the Gamecube thing. I have a bunch of functional Gamecube games, but I already have a Wii, XBox360, cable box, computer, and DVD player going to my flat screen and there are no more ports for the GameCube. Is there any way to get these discs playing on the new 4.3u Wii?
But here is my main question:
I also dug out my old N64 and about 20 games but my N64 is not functioning. I have Goldeneye, Mario games, etc. I purchased all the games a long time ago and some are warped, dirty, etc. I'm not sure what to do to be able to get these games working on my Wii.
I have seen some sites with .wads, iso files, etc. saying these N64 files work but I am skeptical downloading any files or torrents due to the fact that I could get a virus, brick the Wii, be accused of piracy. Is there any way to get these games legally? Or should I just scour the internet and keep all my old games handy if I get sued?
Also a friend gave me some original Wii games. They work fine but having them all on one HDD would be very convenient. Is it legal to back those games up if I have the original discs on hand?

After you get your console sorted, you will need to find a way to backup your games. The best way is to copy them to an external hard drive or usb flash drive. You can copy them to DVD -r's, but only if your Wii's disc drive is old enough to be capable of reading them. Wii's made after Sept. of 2009 are not able to play backups from disc. You can check the Wii Drive Chip Database to see if yours will play DVD -r's.
BEFORE GETTING A USB DRIVE CHECK THE USB COMPATIBILITY LIST.
The recommended usb drive setup is fat32. Although, you can still use NTFS or WBFS loading.
IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE WITH A PARTICULAR GAME, CHECK THE ULTIMATE LIST OF TROUBLESOME GAMES, TO FIND A FIX FOR IT.
IF YOU HAVE AN ERROR, CHECK THE ERROR INDEX
YOU CAN PLAY GAMECUBE BACKUPS ON YOUR WII IF YOUR WII HAS AN OLDER DRIVE THAT WILL PLAY COPIED DISCS.
