No other software is required? (like a softmod)

My buddy said he bought a used Wii and that he burned some games and *some* play off the Disc Channel.
He does not have NeoGamma, nor the HBC installed.
I forgot to ask him if he had a SD card in...

Well, I was searching for the wrong thing, I needed GAME ID Changer, well I found it:
WIIISORenamerv3

I was using V2 which did not have GAME ID support :)
