Heavy Rain for the PS3 Review

This is my first game review and I normally don't care to write them, but praise should be given when it is due. Heavy Rain is a game the likes of which I have never seen. The setup and game play makes it one of the most addicting games I've played in a long time.

The summary of the story is that there is a serial killer running amok and you must stop him before he kills the son of one of the four characters you play as. There is a gray area with this that I will not reveal due to spoiling anything but that's the basic story.

Instead of a first person shooter format or even a role play format, you are immersed in different environments and types of play. There is a mix of cut scenes in which you must navigate sequences of buttons that mostly feel like the action you're trying to preform. What really sets the game apart from others though is the fact that you have ultimate control of how you want to play the game. You are required many times during the game to decide how your character will act depending on which button you press. EX: You could respond with X-aggression, O-Sympathize, Triangle- Calm, or Square- reason. Depending on how you react throughout the game it changes how the game will unfold.

From what I understand from the internet reviews, your characters can actually die which, knowing this, adds anticipation and emotion into the game itself. Even if a character dies, the story keeps unfolding by itself with the remaining characters.

The complexities of the decision resemble the quick instinct decisions one would make in the real world and paired with the graphics make every cut scene intense instead of the normal "go through the motions" cut scenes we are used to. You find yourself immersed in the plot and your characters adapt to your personality taking the storyline in a very realistic direction.

Like I said, I have never played a game with such an interesting set up and thought I'd share it with all of you. I'll include the review trailer that got me interested in the game in the first place since that seems like the right thing to do. As far as Junk is concerned, this game get 10/10 stars. Very high praise from me.

*Thanks to IGN for the awesome review that drew me in!*

Holy smokes. I'm pretty close to the end of the game and have had 2 characters die due to my failing. This game is beyond intense.
