in my experience ordering from ebay is fine, just make sure that the items are REAL, eg. if it is cheap and from hong kong, it is usually fake

I was wondering about the eBay controllers also, mainly this one (because i've never seen it until this listing)

SUPER MARIO BROS RED + Wii REMOTE NEW OFFICIAL NINTENDO - eBay (item 370299698448 end time Jan-29-10 21:03:26 PST)

Looks like a simple mod, dunno where he gets the shells from though. Anyone have any input on those?

Most sellers will refund your money if you send it back. I rather buy stuff like that on ebay then going to a retailer and having to pay a thick wad of cash for something I can get cheaper online. Officemax and bestbuy are 2 retailers I can think of that overcharge.

To those who had good reviews... yes initially i felt the same.
I bought 2 wiimotes and 2 nunchucks (black) from good sellers (both different sellers)

I could NOT tell the difference between the original and the copy (except that the originals i have are white). One wiimote did seem to have a slightly less bold "Wii" and the letters "A" and "B" but BARELY differentiable unless you compared them closely.

Now onto the review. Both worked great... the nunchucks and the wiimotes.

Then it started happening. One of the knockoffs A button would constantly get stuck. Then the otherwiimote would lose its infrared ability. Theonly way i got the infrared .. or pointer ability to work was to take out hte batteries and put them back in. Resyncing didn't work... and as many of you know, with the jackets taking out the batteries become a hassle.

So yeah the wiimotes had problems... too bad both did.. if only the infrared on the other wiimote continued to work flawlessly then only 1 of the knock offs would be a problem. Unfortunately both have their minor issues. Dont get me wrong they still work.. but the quality does not match that of the original.

Now onto the nunchucks. Both worked great.. but then 1 of them started to make noice whenever i moved the joypad. Now it isn't a lot... but it does get annoying.... it makes a squeeking noise... kind of like a softer version of a squeeking door... or like a spring being stretched. Now this is a minor issue... but still doesn't feel right like the original nunchuck. The second nunchuck has its own problems. When i played EA sports active... it pissed me off that the nunchuck would not register whether or not i was moving up or down or what not.. so the motion sensor in that nunchuck is off. I even laid it flat when EA sports active was telling me to stay still... and i was like "IM NOt EVEN TOUCHING THE THING".

Anyways to sum it up. Initial quality was just like the original.
1 month of use did create problems for all 4 units however (2 wiimotes 2 nunchucks) and varied problems.

    1) A button got stuck on 1 mote
    2) Pointer (infrared) randomly turns off... had to take batteries out and put back in to fix each time.
    3) Nunchuck joypad makes squeeky noises
    4) Nunchuck does not seem to have the right motion sensor in some sports (fitness) games.

OH BUT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM OF ALL: THE SOUND

Sure in most games you won't know the difference because the sound exactly that, just sounds (like music or a blast sound or a jump sound.. you get what i mean)

But some games (no more heroes to be specific to the one i tested)... the chick talks over the wiimote. So you cant hear her from the TV and only through the wiimote. What comes out of the wiimote is a bunch of static and garbled noise... like driving through a tunnel listening to FM radio.

And that sound issue is for both ebay (knocked off) wii's. THey work fine wit the original.

BTW... I swore they were original and felt like i got a good deal since i could not tell the difference between the ebay and the original. In the end I got what i paid for. Not bad for saving about 35-40 dollars (original for nunchuck and wiimote is 60 dollars.. got them on ebay for 20 and 25 dollars). I will still use them... and since they are cheap i'd probably just use them over the original as i dont care how i handle them.

In the end if you want knockoffs that look original but definitely aren't the same quality as OEM go for it.... but you get what you paid for. You most likely will get some issues (all 4 units of mind had issues) but they are cheap that you just shrug em off after getting pissed for a second or 2.

    Thanks rhchang. That's very helpful.

I was looking at a Wii remote on eBay just now (Nunchuck and Wireless Wiimote Remote Controller for Wii - eBay (item 350370754160 end time Jul-29-10 08:10:17 PDT)) but as far as I know, nobody's allowed to sell official Wii remotes at such low prices.

I guess we can safely assume that if a Wii remote is being sold for less than US$39-44, it's gotta be a fake, right?

I would have liked to save some money on a couple of Wii remotes, but not at the expense of getting low quality products that end up not working well after a while.

    Thanks again.

You can go to walmart and get you a third party wiimote that will still work really well. Except they look kinda ugly. But will save you alot of money. You can either look for MadCatz or Nyko controllers.
