Thanks a lot for this great tutorial. Had it all. Only [panicked] myself 2 times:
    - Part 3- Make A NAND Backup (NOT Optional, do this,) -> everyone except me was using main console instead remote i guess. Quick youtube video helped me out realize power button indeed means power button
    - idiot win7 background copy...on installing large wads i realized i was missing some files because win7 said he finished the copy..he did not.

thumbs up for the great work

    Hi,
I will softmod my 4.3e wii and I just wanted to ask you a question regarding this step

Select the folder "System Menu 4.1" -press A

Never Uninstall IOS, or SM you will brick your wii
Never Uninstall IOS, or SM you will brick your wii
Press (1) to "Install all Wads" - Press A
3 wads should install without error
    "Press any button to continue"

Be sure all 3 wads install, very important
This installs a version patched SM, which I recommend. If this bothers you, don't do it.

If I want to keep SM 4.3e on my wii is this the only step which I have to skip or do I have to do something else?
    I apologies for my stupidity

    Exactly...Skip that step.

Is WBFS manager used only for HDDs formatted to WBFS? From what I understand FAT32 is the most recommended format. What would be the best manager for a drive formatted to FAT32?

    Thanks!

P.S. Excellent guide -- modded the Wii without trouble. Thank you also for the fast responses to my questions from other users.

Yes...WBFS Manager is only for WBFS drives. Which is best is a matter of opinion and your OS plays a big part in it. I suggest Wii Backup Fusion or QtWitGui but Wii Game Manager and Wii Backup Manager seem to be popular.

No, you can't. If you have checksum errors, download the files again until there's no errors in the WAD's

<--- Hit Thanks if I helped you in any way,

It's not recommended. Re-download the pack and try again.

You can use it for a couple of things but most important is resoring you NAND if you are totally bricked.
