That's just step 1! I have no idea at this stage what softmod is or what it does, I have no idea what homebrew channel is, where is the homebrew channel? Is this something I have on my Wii already? Obviously you and others find the guide easy as you's are used to playing the Wii and what all this jargon means, many people don't. i have read the guide but unless I understand what i need to do and what certain things are then it's just gobbledeegook. I think some guide like
    1. Switch on Wii
    2. insert SD card
    3. go to Wii settings
    4. go to... etc etc et cetera

Some stages like that I think would be far more useful. Also maybe at the beginning something like.
BEFORE YOU TRY AND DO THIS YOU NEED THE FOLLOWING ITEMS.

I'm not complaining, i'm just trying to mkae it as easy for everyone as possible so idiots like me don't have to ask all these questions.

I found (a guide thats not on wiihacks) online which makes it a bit more clearer but even then on step 1 it mentions something about Indiana Jones! WTF?

You can see why it may be confusing for many people.
Thats the easy bit lol. If you are not capable of following a simple guide then maybe you shouldn't be modding.....

    Simple guide? You joking?

Don't worry, it would seem i have stumbled across another techy forum where everyone expects everyone else to understand, rules the length of your arm and then all the geeky experts come out saying 'It's simple, just read the guide' Well it's not that easy, that guide doesn't even give you any steps, it just expects you to know stuff. Easy for some, not very easy for most.

    Bye.

I used this guide last night to 'soft-mod' (which I guessed mean a software modification as opposed to modifying the hardware) my Wii.

I haven't used the Wii in probably 9 months, I'm not what someone would describe as a frequent user. I am also not a 'techy' person (in fact I had to ask my gf how to respond on this forum). I have no idea what a 'WAD' is or a 'SUM' but this guide told me exactly what to do without having to know what it was.

It told me I needed Lego Indiana Jones so I bought it and followed the guide using that method... simple, even for a complete newbie like me.

    Great guide, well done.

Ok, i'm still reading it, nowhere does it say for example where to format the SD card, when you put it in the machine or before? That's quite important i'd say. It's the little things like that that I think the guide needs. At the moment right now all i can gather is that you need to have Indiana Jones game (why that one in particular? no mention of that in the guide) Where do I download these zip files to and where do I extract them to? The Sd card? If so, before I put it in the Wii? So, do you see what I'm saying? I'm not bothered if I know what the stuff is or what it means, I can follow guides if they are done in a idiot proof way but at the moment i'm staring at my Wii and have no clue where to start. That guide suggests that 4.3E has Homebrew on it already, no one has even answered my question about that yet, as far as I can see I dont have Homebrew, I have a few (BAD LANGUAGE) channels on my Wii, bbci player, some shopping crap and a few others but not homebrew whatever the hell that is.

I'm trying my hardest to follow the guide, I really am but am at a complete loss as to where to even start.

Where you format the sd card?... How to Reformat an SD Card | eHow.com

Its a game exploit that was found to run un assigned code to install HB on your system... I dont see why this has to be explained in the guide. As I said read read read - Not just this thread but many Wiihacks Guides: The Author Index

You obviously dont have much computer knowledge and we cant spoon feed all the time so that is why we try to get people to read.
If you dont have the basic knowledge of how thing work and are not willing to read as I stated before maybe you shouldnt be doing this.

I've got a fair bit of PC knowledge, I know HOW to format I just didn't know if this was possible form the Wii. I don't ahve an SD slot on my pc anyway so looks like I can't do it. I only have an SD card because my mp3 players has an internal slot so I can format via that, so thanks.

I don't expect to be spoon fed, I just find the guide a bit of a struggle to follow that all, I guess some people have different ways of learning, some are visual, some or by audio. Some like steps given like

    1. Turn on Wii
    2. Downlod and extract this file to your SD card on your pc
    3. Download this and insert into ... Etc

All those boxes that you click on whicj have extra information leave me confused as I don't knbow if i'm meant to be doing those things in there or go on to the next step. As I say, different methods for different people, not everyone has the same learning styles. If and when I do do this I will write my own guide with the steps shown as I prefer them and hopefuly it will help those who have difficulty with this one.

Ever heard of a sd card reader? If you can use the mp3 player to gain access to your sd card why havent you done that?
This guide lots of people have achieved, you may write your own guide but you would have to post it in the Tutorial Submission Forum.

When I started modding I had no clue like you but some of the question you ask are not needed. If you know you can format it on the computer a normal person would do that, if there was a way to do it through the wii then the guide would tell you!! But here comes the question. When you d/l and unzip the mod files on your computer how are you going to put them on your sd card? What you are trying to do doesnt add up.

There is an ftp app for HB but as seen at you havent got HB you cant use it therefore you d/l the files to your computer and transfer then to your sd card.
