    Painless:

The mirror works fine, just tried it. Clear your cookies and cache, check your firewall settings. If still an issue, try on another PC. Some folks have issue with mediafire (the mirror), most don't.

Thanks M3RK. For some reason your link works However, I had tried both links prior to posting my findings and neither worked. I am not sure why this is actually as I am no n00b on the Internet or to these forums. Anyway, thank you again for posting (re-posting?) that link...

Will doing a softmod to a Wii cause me to loose any saved game data? Maybe I will need to back that all up first then reinstall it after the mod. Anyone know? I did a search and nothing came up in this thread.

    Thanks!

saved game data should be fine, but a backup wont hurt either

The only problem that might happen is your Wii not having the necessary free blocks for the Mod. (350 at least but more is best)

<--- Hit Thanks if I helped you in any way,

I'll check that first then and if there isn't I'll need to determine what I can do without

    can't install bootmii

I tried to search this forum but found no help.

I am working on a Wii, made post 2008, that had been soft mod'ed last year on 4.2U. After an accidental upgrade to 4.3U, I need to do it again. I am attempting with Smash Stack.

I am trying to follow the steps on this thread but when I get to Chapter 1, Part 2 "Install the Bootmii as Boot2" I see the following:

At the HackMii installer v0.8 main screen:
    -----------------------------------------------------------
BootMii: "can only be installed as an IOS"
    The installed boot1 version prevents a boot2 install (-2)
    -----------------------------------------------------------

I am able to install Homebrew channel.

Attempting to select "Bootmii..." on following screen shows the BootMii menu:
    ---------------------------------
    Install BootMii as IOS
    Uninstall BootMii as IOS

    Prepare a SD Card
    ------------------------------------

When I select "Install" I get "Mounting SD card... Creating directory '/bootmii'... FAILED (-1)"

The fact that Uninstall is an option does that mean bootmii is already installed?

I get that same output when "Prepare" is selected.

When I try Chapter 1, part 3 and launch bootmii all I see is a black screen. Pressing the power/reset buttons doesn't appear to do anything. The blue light around the cd insert location is flashing.

    Since I can't launch bootmii I can't do Chapter 2.

The current status of my wii is there is a usb loader and homebrew channels. When I launch usb loader it just sits on the splash screen. Homebrew channel seems to work just fine.

I read on other forums, although over a year old, talking about post 2008 wiis not being able to soft mod by installing bootmii as boot2.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
