have you messed with the sd card lock? try it in different positions.. make sure your card is on the compatible list also. a 2gb sandisk is best. sometimes the wii can read the card but the apps cannot.

    Dowgrading to 4.1

Hi, is it ok to downgrade to 4.1 with a new wii, it says in the "Brick Prevention- Things you should never do" NOT to, or is that just to 3.1? and will i be able to play different region games if i don't downgrade?
    Thanks in advance.

yes it is safe. 4.1 is the ideal firmware to be on, but again it is optional not needed.

to use different region games you can rip the game and force to your region in the loader settings

Just wondering about IOS and Boot2. I have no problems yet but was just interested in what my options are.

I followed mauifrog's guide for a 4.2u and everything is working great--have priiloader, etc. What I don't understand (but would like to) after searching the forum is whether Boot2 installation is only for older (2008 or earlier) Wiis? While I followed this guide (made key and nand, etc.), I didn't recall if my 2010 4.2u system installed Boot2 or IOS. I know that when I turn on the Wii and press A, it goes to the channel options. When I choose the HB channel, it allows me to go to CFUSB loader, etc. If I click home, it allows me the option of loading bootmii, exit, etc. Can I assume I don't have Boot2 installed?

And if I don't have Boot2 installed, what is the purpose of the nand backup if I ever encounter a full brick? Appreciate any directions.

power on your wii if the blue led light flashers 2 times then you have boot 2 the purpos of the nand back up is to put the wii back to life from a brick if not on boot 2 then you need a nand programmer to flash your wii for you

dvd light will flash twice quickly if you have boot2 and only once if its not boot2. Press home in hbc and see if it says bootmii. If it does that's bootmii as an ios.. The nand back up will allow you to have your nand flashed later if you get a full brick.

BootMii/Boot2 can only be installed on Wiis from early 2008. If the DVD-drive flashes twice quickly, BootMii/Boot2 is installed. If it only flashes once, you don't have it installed.

A NAND back-up always has to be made, because there are people on this site who can reflash your Wii's NAND with the files. If you don't have the back-up you can forget it.
