I am on system menu 4.3. I've followed this guide as well as double checked it with about 5 youtube videos of people doing the smash stack hack. We have a standard sd card, did all the right steps to the tee. Any suggestions?
hi there all can anyone tell me if black ops will still work after the 4.3 soft mod as i was usein dogeggs 4.1 neogamma r8 rev17 and had to update to 4.3 for black ops to work as you all no it removes most of it after update any help much thanks
I got a red anniversary edition 4.3U wii, found this guide, read through the first 100 pages of comments before finally deciding to actually do the soft mod, and, it was one of the easiest mods I've ever done, right up there with modding my 5 original xboxs for use with XBMC...
Some things I think you should consider adding to the guide include getting error #004 when trying to transfer the Indy PWNS save (it means you are in the wrong place, you clicked the SD card image from the home screen instead of going to game saves management) booting MMM when the SD card is in, from what I have seen is related to being lucky enough to have bootmii installed as boot2, and having the bootmii directory on the SD card (add the info about renaming or removing the bootmii folder in the apps directory, if installed as boot2 rather than IOS) I think the part about pressing power, power, reset, reset could be reworded to clearly state that these are the buttons on the front of the console, and that pressing them at this point of the guide will not power off or reset your console. The part about what to do after priiloader crashes needs to also be clarified by adding "press power for 7 seconds or pull the power plug from the back of your wii" or something, before saying "press and hold the reset button when powering the console back on, once you see the priiloader main menu appear, you can release reset" or something along those lines.
The optional step for downgrading to 4.1 could also have an explanation attached saying, "If you have a hard mod and want to regain region free functionality when booting back up discs, do this step, otherwise, it can be skipped."Maybe you could also clarify a bit more clearly, that, if your wii is less than 2 years old, it likely has a newer DVD drive that will not read backups or DVD movies. You should also add that, if you are using a MAC during this process, that you will get 24 installed 24 failed or 26 installed 26 failed in wadmanager, and that this is because the MAC adds resource files, and that those failed files can be ignored, as long as you got 24 (or 26) passed, everything that needs to be installed is installed. I'm sure I saw a lot more examples of things that could be added/modified, but, I didn't bother to write down a list, these are just the ones I remember off the top of my head from reading all the posts in this topic.
It is a great guide, and, for me was very easy to follow, but, obviously, some people have a harder time understanding some of the steps than I did, and, I think these changes will help those people understand better.
By the way, while trying to get Uloader to work (before I realized that it wasn't working because my HDD was NTFS and not FAT32) I discovered the fix for something that has plagued me for a long time before the wii even existed... I have had external USB drives that would give me a "Cannot be stopped right now try later" message when trying to stop them before unplugging. I would usually just unplug them anyway, and have never had one get corrupted because of it, but, it still bugged me. Well, the guide for uloader says "Make sure the partition is set as active" I opened computer management, selected the drive I was trying to use, saw that the partition wasn't set as active, so, I right clicked, and chose "mark partition as active", and have not gotten the "Cannot be stopped" message since.
Thanks for such a comprehensive guide, mauifrog, and everyone who has contributed to making it possible (Team Twiizers, etc.) I look forward to enjoying my shiny new homebrew/backup enabled wii for a long time.
I just remembered, that, if you could add a note about how, during the NAND backup process, having up to 80 bad blocks is acceptable... that has freaked out a few people.
the whole 4.3u 4.3e and 4.3k thing looks like these are different revisions of the same firmware... and some people get confused by this, maybe a quick note could be added about 4.3u = usa 4.3e =europe and 4.3k = korea, I know it is mentioned elsewhere, but, some people are finding this guide before they find anything that explains the distinction.
I realize there is no way to make any guide completely idiot proof, but, putting as much info as possible like this will help out some of the less hopeless, leaving the completely hopeless being the only ones posting questions, and those can easily be ignored, as they will likely never get it no matter what you do.
Run sd:\md5summer.exe (while the SD card is still in your PC)
In chapter 3 part 1, you might want to explicitly mention that HBC can't load your apps from a NTFS formatted drive (I figured this out the hard way... I will be reformatting to FAT32 ASAP)

Thank you for great tut
Thanx for guide
If you want to play it through the Disc Channel, you will need to update a few regular IOS's. I suggest you follow my Update All Your IOS's guide, and use the "Update Game IOS.zip" pack.
"Macs are the Perfect Computers," said the Perfect Idiot.
I installed the HBC, but I did not see any "boot2", I think it installed as IOS.
I`m in part 3 of chapter1, backup your nand.
I am able to navigate with the buttons, but the backup doesn`t seen to occour.
f_open(keys.bin) failed: 1
Then some other thing, "verifyed". It took about 10 seconds, and then say to press to exit.
There are no nand.bin or key.bin in my sd.
What is this, what do I do. I have a hardmoded 3.4u wii
edit. tryed with a different card and it seens to be doing do backup now! It was a kingston 1gb before, now I tryed a sandisk 2gb.
