I just wanted to say thanks. The guide worked great. Everything eventually went as it was supposed to on a 4.3u wii purchased for Christmas. The problem was when I got to the part where you start multi mod manager to install the wads.
I already had been playing the wii and had it set up for 480p over a component connection. When I started the process that starts up multi mod manager after HB and Bootmii the screen just started flickering and rolling. I could not see anything. With much trepidation I forced the wii off by holding in the power button. Then I went and found my regular tv connection cable and booted the wii, changed settings to 480i and 4:3 aspect ratio then started up multi mod manager via bootmii. Everything worked from there.
I am still learning, I wonder if I will be able to backup my super mario game that came with my red wii without any patching? I will read more and find out.
Also a shout-out to Dogeggs - Do you remember me?

Thanks for the guide. I have a wii which was modded with a chip to be region free, but since updating on super mario galaxy 2 from a different region I've lost the region-free capability. Most of my games are PAL, the wii is NTSC. I intend to play using original game disks rather than back ups.
Looking through the steps, the guide mentions "region change your wii" but I can't see anything about making a 4.2 wii region free. Is it still possible after softmodding or is changing the wii's region to PAL the best I can do?
If I followed this guide through to the end without simply changing the region of my wii, how would I go about playing an out of region game straight from the disk drive?
Sorry if it's a dumb question, I've had a look through the thread but couldn't see a specific answer to this one.
Thanks for any help you can give.

You have to follow the optional part of the guide on downgrading to 4.1. 4.2 kills region free for chips. Be careful and read it 10 times before you do it. Ensure all the wads from the step prior install
