However, now I get the black screen when booting the system if a game is in the drive (retail game, Metroid Other M is what I had in there) and the system freezes up. With no game in the drive it boots just fine every time, to the system menu like normal. Is this expected behavior, or is there some option somewhere that needs to be disabled or something?

Probably not a big issue as I'm going to try and get a USB drive set up and working, so won't need to leave a game in the drive ever, but just seemed rather strange. Thanks again!
Not really expected behavior, but really very well tested either. The retail game Metroid M is going to trigger a system update, also any 4.2 update disks. The priiloader should block that, but I am not sure what would cause the black screen at boot. Since your setting up a usb I really think you will like that better, for your retail games and those we will not speak of. So unless it becomes an issue, take that game out when you boot. Does it do it with any other games?

For chapter one of this guide, is it important to make sure no gc controllers or memory cards are plugged in? And since I'm doing the smashstack method, I know that I need to delete/move all of my custom made stages but do I have to delete my Super Smash Bros. Brawl game save?

Ok, start with installing IOS53-64-v5406.zip via the wadmanager in MMM. Then try to load New super mario bros

You don't need to delete that save game, just backup the custom stages. As for the gc controllers and memory cards, to be honest I really don't know. I know it has been said before, so if you feel like testing go for it. Otherwise, perhaps it is best to remove them. I did do a read on wiibrew.org and there is no mention of a need to remove these, but removing them can not hurt.

Okay. Does modding the wii through this method sometimes cause difficulty for the Wii to read game discs?

Not that I know of, but I think you are the first to install Darkcorp and have a modchip, I don't really know how well dip patched ios and a modchip get along. That is the point of this test, so let me know what happens when you install ios53 and load NSMB.

Well actually, I didn't start on modding my wii yet. I was about to start right now so I could hack SSBB but I just wanted to get all my questions answered first. I'm gonna mod my wii right now using the 4.3 SoftMod guide. Thank you for answering all the questions I had.

Thanks for a great guide mauifrog, my Wii is going to be my easier for my kids to use now thanks to you I followed your guide, but kept the 4.3 system menu (I didn't see the point in downgrading to 4.1) and loaded the apps to my 320Gb USB Mybook formated as FAT32. It all went very smooth. Keep up the good work!

Sorry, got you confused with someone else. Well, hope you got all your questions answered and I can ignore most of my last post to you because it was not referring to your situation. I try not to do that, but sometime it is difficult talking to multiple people.
