SOLVED!!! Thank you so much! After 3 hours of messing around, all I did was use the hackmii installer v0.6! I suggest adding it to this guide.

Hey guys! I've read through the tutorials but still a little lost. I just purchased a brand new black 4.3U Wii console. I also purchased an external 500GB HD and a 8GB SD card. I was reading through this tutorial however, and it said that the maximum size that the SD card can be to hack the system is 2.0GB or less. I was a bit surprised as a co-worker does this mod for ppl. regularly and I know for a fact has used 4GB cards on several occasions.
With that said, I do have in my possession another co-workers Wii (exact same 4.3U unit) that was just Softmodded successfully, along with their external (over 200 backups) and the SD card that was used to hack their Wii.
What is the easiest method for me to approach this now that I have all of this in hand?

I was going to suggest that, but didn't want to suggest something other than what mauifrog had in his guide. So, did you complete the guide with HBC 1.0.6 installed or did you update the HBC to 1.0.8 to complete the guide?

Just like to say that this tutorial worked like a dream first time no errors or probs yet as I still have to carry out the final chapter 3 step and put on the apps. Also I haven't tried to format a HDD yet and play backups. Huge thanks to mauifrog for his 4.3 guide and posts throughout this thread.
The only suggestion I have is to mention that at the start of chapter 2 running the md5summer.exe part took me a while to figure that you do that on the PC and not somehow in one of the wii progs / apps that you have just installed.
Again many thanks.

Done......it was because the kids already had a saved game and when I hit copy it said it was already there...so what I figured out was that I had to delete the saved game then copy it and it worked. We are now having fun shooting zombies that won't die.

I was able to complete the entire guide with 1.0.6 installed. I'm still not able to upgrade the homebrew channel, as it gives me the same error, but USB loader and my games work perfect, as well as everything else. Is there even a reason to upgrade if everything works fine?
The only other thing I noticed, is the guide states SDHC cards will not work. I'm using a brand new Kingston 4GB SDHC card and it worked perfect. I just extracted the ModPack.-AnyWii.zip file to it, ran md5summer.exe and continued with the guide.

USB loader issues after update
When I boot my wii it says
"Error: Couldn't open file!
Press any button to reboot Wii..."
Then when I press a button it loads to the USB loader fine, but I don't understand why I'm getting the error.
Also I just updated the configurable usb loader and it erased all my cover art, and when I try to re-download the cover art I get an error screen. Why can I no longer get cover art? All I did was click update inside the global options in the USB loader.
The error screen says
"Exception DSI occured" and a whole bunch of numbers and letters and on the bottom it says rebooting in 60 seconds. And now I can't get any cover art.

I had this same error a few weeks ago. To fix it, I deleted the "image" directory from my SD card and then re-downloaded all the art in USB loader (hit button 1).

I have all my files on my usb HDD and I tried doing what you did, I deleted my "covers" folder (i don't have an "image" folder) but I still get the same error screen when trying to dl the cover art...
