Thanks for this! I bought my first Wii yesterday. Ive been modding since the Dreamcast days and with your guide (it took about 30 minutes being as SD cards read and write so friggin slow), my Wii is now pwned by Indiana. I will definitely stick around to support this site. Thanks so much!

Hi, Out of all the softmod guides I have read I think I like the look of this one the most for my brand new black 4.2 E Wii. Have been reading over and over and also the Loading from USB HDD guides reffered out.

I'm confused about how to achieve the "finished" set-up I think I want, which is, to have priloader let the Wii boot to SM. (I guess thats just a priiloader options setting)
But I don't want to have to go via the HBC to access Configurable USB Loader to access and play games from my FAT32 USB HDD, does that mean I need a CFG forwarder or a CFG channel installed?? I dont understand what I need to install to the wii and what, if anything, gets installed to the HDD for this part??
I need more detail but have not been able to understand this particular part in any of the guides I've read.
Maybe I should just set priiloader to boot into CFG (as the guide suggests for those with kids), but I think I want the SM to be accessible in the first instance on boot and teach the kids what to navigate to.

You likely enabled to much hacks inside MMM in the priiloader part. disable everything with GC/d-pad/recovery menu (black screen with 4.3 in the lower right is the recovery menu, can also triggerd with GC controller or dance mat plugged in.. unplug everything from your wii), only have block updates enabled for now. the garbled/lined screen is already the boot process of MMM, that is because you where able to install bootmii as boot2 (you are lucky). SO: a) you rename the bootmii folder to bootmii_old to continue with the guide "normally" or b) just follow it as outlined, change the hacks and start apps from MMM. when you carefully follow the guide you will see the "format sd card" on chapter 3 again, this will get rid of the bootmii folder and give you the apppack, your wii should boot to sysmenu and you'll be able to run your loaders from hbc or via the installed channels.
edit: if you just want to see priiloader, unplug your sd card for a sec, power on the wii while holding reset, priiloader will show up, replug sd card.

I'm having the same problem. Stuck at Chapter 1 part 3, getting the black screen. So I've d/l the ModPack-AnyWii and found the bootmii folder inside. I copied that folder and pasted it onto my sd and replaced the files. Is this what you meant? I'm not getting any different results. I can't use the alternate option since my wii isn't online.
I'm very confused and have been reading here at wiihacks for 3 solid days now. Perhaps you could outline the steps to be taken in a little more detail? I'm sorry to be the dumb newbie. Any help will be greatly appreciated, ty!
If you installed bootmii properly as IOS (if you installed it as boot2, do the IOS installation alongside) that should work. maybe redo the bootmii installation part, and afterwards extract the modpack to a fresh formatted sd card. 2GB SD card i hope.

nice one, why worry about not having bad blocks? even up to 80 bad blocks would be considerd normal/within boundarys.

    good luck all

I've just got one thing to ask, hope it's just a simple issue with priiloader. Need help in this part of guide:

    Optional priiloader settings-

You can set you wii to boot the system menu, HomeBrew Channel, Priiloader, USBloader, and any other app you wish. Settings are found in priiloader, settings. Set the autoboot and return to what you like best.
Example: Set the autoboot and return to installed file, now your wii will autoboot to your USBloader or HBC- Excellent option for those with kids.

At the minute every time i turn on the wii it boots up to multi mod manager. I want it to boot up to the wii menu if possible.
How do i get to priiloader settings to set the autoboot. All i can see about priiloader is in MMM: manage priiloader and in the HBC preloader: priiloader mod.
I would have it to boot to usb loader but i'm waiting for me hdd to arrive.

    Any help much appreciated.
Hi, I have'nt modded yet but I think you must have missed this part of the guide: -

"If MMM loads at boot, select Manage Priiloader, Edit Priiloader Hacks, enable needed hacks.

    Thank you
you should be able to run the backup of your scratched indy game with your chip. but yes, you have to use one of the gameexploits, as everything is gone as you mentioned. see other desperate options if any applies.

nothing to worry. if you follow the guide as it is, you will end up with that exact setup. you install a cfg usbloader channel (as forwarder, which is much better as the full channel). if you don't mess around with priiloader too much or forget the format sd card part of chapter3 your wii will boot to SM and let you choose from there. all your decision what the final setup looks like.

    good luck

am i able to do this then

in this guide will this work then
with the 4.3u red wii then if i do this
    the original
indiana jones games then if i have it

and if so i need to know if i can do these steps instead
i want to do instead without breaking it cause bootmii is installed as a ios
and i wanna be more cautious incase other wads screw up
    then
so i will ask the question

when you get to this step here in this guide
with indiana jones the game then

install homebrew channel here is the step
and install as ios here then is the step for red wii
    then exit so then
    the question is
when your done there then and exited and here
at homebrew channel you can backup your nand here
    then
but! the question then for me is right here then after that this step before installing
the wads then can u do priiloader first
    here or not?
    and
    then the wads
after or not i need to know

is it safe to do it that way before i install the wads or must i install all original cios files in guide first through bootmii then exit and install priiloader or can I JUST DO IT BEFORE THEN i really would like to know if i can do it then before i do this guides cios's or not then

or must i do it without priiloader then first

yes, this issue is discussed many times. Forum has a "search thread" function in the grey bar above the posts.
and is no issue if you would have followed the guide as it is written. it said, format the sd card before extracting the app pack to it (chapter3).
delete or rename your bootmii folder on your sd card --> wii will boot normal to sysmenu unless you change it in priiloader (which is in the settings not the hack part).

need help with manually adding cover art for games

i followed this guide & worked great for 4.3u - thank you!

one question on manually adding cover art that will show up in usb loader app.

i manually added a game to my usb drive - i converted a backup iso to wbfs using wii game manager.and i followed the dir structure that the usb loader app uses when ripping a game to disk, like this:

    USB:\wbfs\ABCD12_Name Of The Game\ABCD12.wbfs

plus i made the text file that tells the usb loader that "ABCD12.wbfs = The Name Of The Game" in file USB:\wbfs\ABCD12_Name Of The Game\ABCD12_Name Of The Game.txt

the game is listed in the 3D scrolling list of games with it's name in text and it loads and plays no problem, but...

the problem is no cover art and i'm wondering how to manually add cover art to the usb drive and what the directory structure needs to be for the usb loader to see it and show it when scrolling through games. the game i ripped from disk through the loader doesn't show cover art either and trying to download missing cover art in the loader app didn't work "failed to connect" to the various online servers, even though internet connection is working.

anyhow, hoping you can tell me how to manually art the cover art to the usb drive and where to put it.

    thanks again

Whatever you try to do. I actually only understood half of it. Follow The Guide - Word for Word. This is the safest route. Do install the .wads BEFORE you do the priiloader installation. good luck, read the guide, follow it.

    Spoiler

have a look in the Fat32 guide again, mentions that and the cover path, you have a 2nd folder of your loader in the root of your sd card. they go there in the cover folder. downloadable at wiitdb.com
    good luck
