First off thank you for such a great guide. i have another noob question. on step two when i run md5 to verify the sums, the first one says no errors like the instructions says. when i run the update pack it gives 19 errors stating that the wads do not exist. is this normal? the instructions don't specify about errors or not on the update pack. thank you.

    re-download the pack
    format your sd
extract contents of pack to your sd
    run md5summer on your SD

Thank you for this excellent guide. In the spirit of helping, I made notes along the way that completely confused this newbie:

Tell people they need an SD reader! I realize this is borderline retarded, but when I saw the requirements were an SD card, on many places in this site, I went and bought one, without realizing that my laptop doesn't have a built-in reader.

After "Press 1 install all wads and press any button" and before "install homebrew channel press continue", you have to press A to perform batch operation.

For NAND backup it should be made clear you're to go over to the wii console and press these buttons, to get to the icon with a green arrow pointing to an SD card. It should be explained more clearly that "Power" navigates the icons and "Reset" selects the highlighted icon.

And also say "exit bootme to hc by pressing the power or reset button on the wii"
And again, without understanding how to navigate these menus, i didn't realize what i was doing and i managed to repeat the backup process all over again. with no cancel or reset, it was a long wait!

mdsummer5 should be made clear you do this on the computer, and need to run as an administrator on vista/w7

Chapter 2 wad installs-- you have to press A. It's important to know this because the instruction is off screen because of all the wads.

"Network install" of menu 4.1 should be clarified. There should either be a prompt beforehand to have your wii online, or else explain that you have to use the "offline" method if you're not currently connected to the internet. At least I think that's the case.

And just a reminder there was never anything about "Indiana Pwns" in this guide, whereas you recommend having it on your Wii in the faq about bricking.

They should not give you error. Ensure the wads extracted properly to sd:\wad

Thanks for putting together this how-to guide. It was very useful!

I've been having some problems connecting to the internet after installing the softmod, however. Before updating, I was able to go online and do pretty much whatever. Now that I've installed the mod I can't connect to the internet at all. I followed the instructions by line when installing the softmod, so I don't know exactly where the issue comes into play. None of my settings have changed on my router, and just in case I re-input the connection settings on my wii.

Is this a common problem with an easy solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The issue is not common, it is probably a temporary issue with your connection to the test server. Keep trying.

[QUOTE=StathisK;469057]I dont see any reason not wanting to do a NAND backup, it only takes about 10 minutes.
Imagine your wii bricking at some point. Wouldn't you want to turn back time and have made that NAND backup?

what I ment was i make a copy of the nand right after hombrew and bootmii is installed, but also after the mod is completed (a before and after). is there ia difference? Like if I was to brick, I can load the after mods nand and I wont have to go through the mods again. Will that work or is a nand the same after its modded?

You need to keep the first one backed up, but you can make a second one if you want. The first one is for if you do something wrong during the guide (it won't if you follow the directions though). You may not even realize it until you finished. You want to have something to start fresh from.

My Nand had no bad blocks but it's only a 1.5 year old Wii that hasn't been used much since last year. Thanks to the TS, the Guide works great. My only issue is with burning discs and getting them to work. I tried 2 burns of Twilight Princess on 2 different brands of dvd+r media and neither worked, first one was Kodak second one was Verbatim. Should I bother spending $10 or $20 on some Verbatim DVD-Rs or try to get an external hard drive for the Wii?

dont bother. a wii that new probably came with a chipset (d3/4) that will not read DVD-R games without a modchip. only older wiis can read backup DVD-R games.
