No problem; read mauifrog's reply to you above --- he is the author of this guide and obviously an excellent source of advice.

thanks for the wicked fast response mauifrog, but apparently i'm a moron. is the check sum just to ensure that files haven't been slightly modified as they've been transferred? please excuse my ignorance. failure to check them and find an issue would cause significant problems? thanks again!

To verify no corruption. You install something corrupted, the results won't be pretty lol.

Just wanted to confirm a few things.
I did some quick google searching, but many threads were from 2009 so just checking if it still applies with the latest updates and such.

If i use softmod on my wii, do game backups run at 3x speed and cause lag in many cutscenes?
If so, running games off usb/external drive would solve this issue correct?

Disc backups run at 3x, usbloading runs at 8x (faster than dvd). I think the guide is updated, I update it daily.

Finally!!!! I managed to complete the guide... it was all due to my sd memory card issue... I purchased a new scan disk SD card and all just worked according to the guide
However I'm facing issue when try to play my backup games from my usb hard drive. I
    1) unzipped the AnyWii-AppPack.zip onto the sd card
    2) formatted my hard drive (WD elements SE 1T) according to guide below
FAT32 Hard Drives - Formatting, Loading, Ripping, Playing
    3) backup my "new super mario brother" game to the hard drive
    4) launch configurable usb loader from HBC
    5) seeing many disks marked with ? (I only have 1 game on it...)
    6) after I pressed the A button it entered into another menu which only display one disk but the title selected did not show anything...
    7) I can't seem to do anything from this menu... and have to power down the wii...

Really need your help to guide me through this final step. Thanks!

you see the ? because it tells you, you dont have a cover for that game, you can download its cover
you see many ?, because you have only one game (thats an assumption, I use wiiflow, and that happens when you have only one game, so in order to fill the screen it just shows the same game)
I d say its all normal from what you re saying
I would check your loaders instructions for loading games
no need to freak out and power off your wii
    just read instructions and understand
congrats! you re ready to play backups from your wii

I dont see any reason not wanting to do a NAND backup, it only takes about 10 minutes.
Imagine your wii bricking at some point. Wouldn't you want to turn back time and have made that NAND backup?

check your loaders page and see if it has any special settings for those games
or check these forums for those specific titles and I m pretty sure you find a step by step guide

I can only understand your frustration, because me too, prior of knowing this site, I had used another guide to softmod
Believe me you when I tell you, this guide is great and easier for resoftmodding

Rather than trying combining the two guides, and starting where you left of, completely erase the previous from your mind, and start over with this one.
you have no experience, these guys have lots.
And believe me when I say all you need is in the guide, I ve done it, on a virgin wii and on already softmodded, I can't see why can't you or anyone.
