    4.3 is 4.3. U is just the region (U, E, J, K, etc.)

With the exception of Korean systems which requires a little extra care, U, E, and J pretty much all work the same.

Hey So i am at the stage where I am supposed to install the priiloader but ive tried to launch both the 0.7 and 0.8 and they keep giving me an error message:

    0.7 - cIOS58 isnt ES_identify patched: error -1017., aborting mission...
    0.8 - IOS36 isnt ES_identify patched: error -1017., aborting mission...

More than likely you skipped a step during the mod process. There are specific settings written into the files of this guide that make WiiMod overwrite old files with the files supplied in this guide. If a step was missed, you could be running IOS/cIOS that can't be used. I would suggest you go ahead and install the IOS Update pack regardless of the SM version you are on, then try to install priiloader again.

I also just notices that my WiiMod menu now has the top "Wii Mod v3.2" banner in a red banner. Does that mean anything?

Also I tried resetting my wii and now nothng is happening when its turning on... its just a blank screen.

Dude, you fail big time. As stated before, it sounded like you didnt do some of the steps in the guide. Now you go and reset when having errors, which is exactly what this guide tells you NOT TO DO. I told you what to do, yet go go on your own path. Whatever.... We cant help someone who doesnt follow the most basic of instructions. I hate to see someone brick a Wii, but some accountability has to go towards the person doing the mod. Its been well documented during the last several years. Follow this guide to the letter and you will be fine. Do your own thing and its a crap shoot. You lost in the crap shoot.

Greetings! I apologize if this has been asked before: 1813 pages is a LOT to go through. I did try to search for this question, but the search terms for this question are so broad and pervasive, I might as well have searched for "Wii Hacks".

Anyway, I successfully followed this guide to mod my own Wii, and I can now play backup games from an external hard drive! No more scratched disks! My original disks are now safely in storage.

My question is this. I have a friend who I told about my Wii modding adventure, and she's interested in having something done to hers as well because her kids are small and destroy disks. However, she isn't nearly as savvy as I am when it comes to technology, so I'm trying to find the most simple solution to let her kids use backup burned disks.

So my question is, how far through this guide should I go in order to just brick-protect her Wii, and to make it so that it will read burned DVDs? I didn't have to worry about this with mine because I knew I'd be using a HDD. I'd like to make it such that they can simply stick a burned DVD into the drive and otherwise have everything look original. In other words, using burned disks from the Wii Disc Channel.

I would also like any pointers that would indicate whether her Wii is old enough that the drive can read DVDs. It is a white Wii.

If there are already threads that address these questions, please feel free to point them out to me. As I said, I tried searching but those are very widespread search terms. Thanks in advance and double thanks to all the people who've worked so hard to make these guides and this site possible!

The wii would have to be about 5 years old or older to play burned discs. Anything newer, and it will not physically do so (and would leave USB only path open). On the other issue (provided that particular wii is able to play them via disc channel), we haven't recommended it for a LONG time but what you're talking about is cIOSCorp. You can read an old blog about it here on wiihacks.

    Glad you enjoyed the guide!

As far as your friend is concerned:
Wii consoles purchased prior to mid 2009 can read backup discs. 2010 and later will have to go with HDD loading. Ive ran across a few bought during late 2009 that will read backup discs, but its a crap shoot really. Punch in her serial number at this site: http://www.wiidrives.com/list
If it comes up as a d3 drive or any variation of that, or a higher version number (D4), no dice on the disc loading. D2 or lower you may have a shot (backup disc loading will kill drives eventually, she should go with USB regardless). Even a USB thumb drive would suffice for the time being til a better drive could be purchased.

    Hope this helps!

EDIT: and of course the nightstah beat me to it...too bad he was lacking on the details........LMAO
