    Hi all,

Could someone please give an old hand who’s been out of the scene a while, a quick update. It’s been two years since I “tweaked” a Wii. Back then, System Menu 4.3 was quite new, CIOS249 was on release 19, WiiFlow was at release 2.2 and they hadn’t started putting System Menu updates on game disks.

All three of the Wii’s I did, I left the official System Menu untouched at between 3.2e & 3.4e. I used a mixture of HackMii and PimpMyWii (which was also new) to apply the CIOS updates. Post-mod, I no longer used the SD card but instead had two FAT32 partitions for booting the system and loading games.

Now that System Menu 4.3e can be got at, I would like to upgrade these three modded Wiis to 4.3e before I start so that when an original game is inserted, it does not want to carry out a system update from disk and wipe out the mods. Page 1 of this thread says to “Never Ever Ever Update Your Wii From Nintendo”. Can I ask:

    a) Am I wrong in my planned approach, to upgrade to 4.3e official to start with a clean Wii and clear out earlier mods, before following the latest method of modding?.

    b) If this IS wrong, can 4.3e be applied in another way?

    c) With all the advances, Is it still the best set up to load from two FAT32 partitions on the external disk

Thanks in advance for any advice.

This guide will OVERWRITE any previous attempt at a softmod or an out of date one. Updating your Wii is unnecessary. Read the guide; there's at least two different places in spoilers where it talks about updating any form of a softmod. As to USB HD, not sure why you'd want two different partitions but yes FAT32 is the current thinking.

The guide will say it recommends installing the 4.1 menu. Since you are at 3.x, I would call that more of a requirement to get you "current". It is optional for those who are 4.3 already. No functional changes exist between 4.1 and 4.3 other than attempts to stop softmodding, but there are changes between 3.x and 4.1 that would benefit you to have (>2gig SD card reading, for example).

Just an update for the just dance 2014 issue I posted about, I figured it out. Apparently you need to run that game on IOS 224, I still dont know why the wii wont read the copy i bought, but meh i got it working off of the hdd.

Just wanted to throw there here in case anyone else had issues with that game.

If you used cIOS 250, it would've worked as well. That's generally the cIOS to use (250) with that specific title.

Just a quick question, do the apps that come with the app pack allow for the viewing of movies or media on an external hard drive right away? Thanks.

As long as you've completed the guide, yes.

If I spelled something wrong, I'll just blame it on auto-correct

    Hey Everyone

I am hoping someone will be able to help me with soft modding my Wii. My Wii is running on 4.3U and I am stuck on Chapter 2 Part 1 Installing WADS. So far up to this point, I had no problems. Right now after I launch WiiMod and open up WAD Manager I am unable to see the contents in my WAD folder. On the screen, it shows I am in the directory sd:/wad and I have the option to click [apps] or [wad]. If I click A or + on [wad] it does not show me anything except now my directory shows sd:/wad/wad: Please help. Thank You
