Why is it important? If you don't do it, you will be missing the new IOSs that were installed in 4.3 systems that don't exist in 4.1 systems (presuming those that are not soft modded, where what IOSs are installed and menu level are tied together).

Without that, you wouldn't be able to play the games made after 2010 that require the IOSs installed with 4.3.

So by installing IOS Update contents, you install the updated system information so you can play new games without neccessarilly updating the menu.

As for DIOS MIOS, once the Softmod Any Wii guide is installed, you can then move onto any other guide. Best to keep them separate since when installing ModPack, you do install the Mios v10 that would otherwise be installed on 4.3 systems if you do a normal Nintendo update. You will want to install DM after this step.
Thanks for the thorough answer, I get it now

Hi this is my 1st time trying to set up a Wii. I have a 4.3E and have followed the guide up to chapter 3 with everything going smoothly. Ive formatted SD card and put on the app pack from the link and put on the sd card (apps folder being the only folder on the sd card after the format) gone back to the wii but none of the apps on screen boot past the start screens and HBC is empty inside.

Have I done something wrong or misread something (english is my second lanuage) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you did now extract the .zip file properly. You said that you have "apps" directory on the ad card. What is inside that? How did you format the SD card?

Quick question. My wii was modded(by someone else) about a year and a half ago. I am looking to remod it as to update it to the latest files. Will this mod allow me to keep all my files on external hard drive? Secondly, I am confused about one thing, I assume the files to mod are extract on a PC, moved over to a SD card then put in the WII. Sorry for such noob questions just don't want to kill the wii. THANKS!

    Hello,

I did not touch my modded Wii almost 18 months. Everything is perfect so far. But I can see that lot of IOS files (versions) are different now: Should I "refresh" system with all files in IOS pack (IOS Update.zip downloaded from this tutorial) with WAD manager or nothing special I will get?

My answer to both of your questions are the same: If you are asking the question, you did not read the guide.

Both of you should remod your system, in full, based on the guide on page 1 of this thread.

Ok, I will remod if you say so, but why in full? I already have latest HBC, had Bootmii, I did NAND backup 4 years ago and as I know there is no need to do it again. Priiloader, too. So we are already on Chapter 2, exactly where is instruction to install mod files (IOS). And I asked that. I can compare current IOS wad files with latest and see what wads have changed and install only them.

So if I need to do something from Chapter 1 I would like to know what and why? I like to know what I am doing and not to act like a machine (install all and don't ask why)
I think question is reasonable and is ok by me.
