just a heads up. ive used every type of SDHC card offered at walmart, best buy, target, etc etc.

THEY ALL WORK. its VERY rare that i get an SD card that doesnt work. usually its the 32gig cards that are picky, but 16 gigs and below ive had ZERO issues with.

hell, i had more issues with a 256mb and 512mb regular SD card working than i have any SDHC, and ive been using this guide for well over 4 years and have modded, literally, over 4000 consoles.

BootMii and a couple other things were prime candidates for causing SD card issues. The guide as it has evolved has become less prone to this issue. That being said, a BootMii or wad issue generally point to SD card questions right off the bat. As with anything in life, this is a YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) kind of thing.

We thank you for your input, but I suspect well-intentioned or not that's not what's really the point or issue. See the third sentence above.

Second edit: as an aside, why would you use or experiment with such small SD cards that aren't physically up to the task? You'd need 1gb SD at minimum to do the WHOLE guide, and to do it CORRECTLY. 4,000 consoles just points to 4,000 questions with a statement such as that. As a logical deduction, you must've felt a NAND backup was too bothersome a task.

YMMV for sure, ive never had an issue with any SD or SDHC card ive used.

i use multiple SD cards when i mod. 2 x 512mb + smash bros disc for smash stack, actually. im able to do the entire guide, correctly. the 4 people who have managed to partial-brick a mod ive done were poking around in areas they shouldnt have been (deleting IOSs) after being told not to do that.

YMMV and for anyone reading this, you should follow the guide to the letter. i have decades of programming experience, numerous computer certifications n whatnot that assisted me in getting myself out of trouble when i experimented.

    Hi llaffer,

Thanks for your reply. I followed the chapter one again and installed HBC as mentioned and all works like charm.
Thank You for this awesome guide.

EDIT: Thanks for a great guide, I hashed it out with Letterbomb and had a lot more luck. Can't wait to see what I've missed in the Homebrew scene

Okay so I've read about 100 pages of this thread, used the search and reread the guide and I've come to the conclusion that I'm stuck, likely due to something I did wrong. Specifically, I'm stuck at Chapter 1, Part 1 -
With a freshly formatted SD card, I followed all the steps to run Wilbrand (Letterbomb didn't want to run) and finally got the message. After clicking on it, my screen went black, the disk drive started flashing and my Wii remote is still on.

Before I did this I double checked the amount of free memory I had, formatted the SD card, double checked my version and MAC address so I know I got it all right up until that point, and the Wilbrand GUI dialogue box is still up so I know I input all the info correctly. Now the question is, how likely is it that I've bricked my beloved Wii, and can I just turn it off and start again or should I be doing something else (the disk drive has been flashing for a good 10-15 minutes now)?

Thanks in advance for any replies

You've done no harm to your Wii; go ahead and power cycle it. Then try it again.

I've decided to softmod my wii, but I only have a small 1gb SD card. When I try to format it using the tools given in the tutorial, it always reverts back to FAT, rather than FAT32.
Will this give me any problems when working through the tutorial? I can set the card to FAT32 through the windows format, but if I run one of the other format tools after that, doing a full erase, it just switches right back to FAT.
Any help on this would be very appreciated, thanks!
