I formatted with both Wii Backup Manager and EaseUS Partition Manager with no success.
What is this INSTALL feature? I cannot find it in Wii Backup Manager. I formatted (Tools->Format) and then transfered (Transfer -> Drive 1) the ISO from my PC's HDD to the USB drive

The install feature is within the USB loader (GX, CFG, or WiiFlow).
In CFG, put in the game disk, press "+" when CFG is loaded, then the game will be ripped off of the disk and onto the hard drive.
All three have an install feature. How to access them vary depending on the program.

I see. My DVD drive is not working, that's why I need to have the USB functionality. It is interesting that I can load the USB loaders from the USB drive (HBC detects them) but they cannot see the USB drive. CFG gives "Device is not responding. Make sure USB port 0 is used.". GX loaders shows "USB device not found. Switching to channel list mode".

Are you saying the DVD drive simply can't read discs anymore or are you saying it's electrically dead? If the latter, you won't be able to successfully softmod your Wii. If the latter, any channel you load will also produce an error.

The DVD drive cannot read disks but it powers on, spins the disk and lighting in blue. I successfully installed , HackMii, BootMii, Priiloader, cIOS and all channels are working fine. As I really run out of ideas after 2 days of googling, I will probably try a different mod...

I did this step:
Verify Checksums -very important
MAC users- you can use Free File Sharing Made Simple - MediaFire
On your PC, navigate to your sd card
Run sd:\md5summer.exe (this is run on your computer, not the Wii)
Click "Verify Sums", Select "ModPack.md5"
All check sums should verify without error (very important)
[SIZE=3]If installing the IOS update: Click "Verify Sums" again, Verify IOS UPDATE.md5
If installing the Shopping Channel v21 update: Click "Verify Sums" again, Verify RVL-Shopping-v21.md5
All Checksums should verify without issue. Errors = Bad News, so try again
And when I verified the shop channel one, it said
"wad\shop channel v21\RVL-Shopping-v21.wad ERROR: E:\ModPack\wad\shop channel v21\RVL-Shopping-v21.wad does not exists."

zero, i don't think u should try a different mod. a different mod would only cause u another different trouble. on thread #17201, it appears u've been going on the right track.
focus to work on the flashdrive [key] format and iso transfer from ur HDD.
are u plugging the flashdrive into the correct usb port of Wii console ? (see thread #17178)
are u using the latest version of NeoGamma/GX/CFG/Wiiflow ? ( remark: the expired versions of these loaders support only wbfs format. latest version supports wbfs/FAT/NTFS)
while u said "HBC can see them and run apps from them, but all USB loaders cannt...", are u meaning you can't access the loaders via a CHANNEL on the Wii_menu screen?
have u installed the FORWARDER(s) during softmod ? --- what're those xxxxx.wads ? AND,....now u say " all channels are working fine. "--- that means the Neo/GX/CFG/Wiiflow & HBC ???
yes, the more info, the sooner ur problem would be solved ! :P

I will try later to play with different formats and file systems.I am using the correct port (I tried the other port also). I am using latest versions and tried with few older versions of the USB loaders.
Let me explain in more details. I followed the guide and did it several times with no issues or errors. Everything has run smoothly. I have now BootMii, Priiloader and HBC. I am able to start the HBC which is able to read my USB keys i.e. I can load applications copied to the USB keys from HBC. I even copied different versions of different USB loaders on the USB key and I can start the loaders from the key itself. The loaders start but when they search for USB drives, they say that no USB drive is present. Same behaviour when I start the USB loaders from the SD card.
CFG Loader: "Device is not responding. Make sure USB port 0 is used..."
GX loader:"USB device not found.
WiiFlow: Detects the games and when I start them it crashes with either black screen with white letters (like memory dump) or exits to HBC.
With CFG loader I tried to load different cIOS (222, 223, 248-251) but same result.
I installed d2x v10 beta but still the same.
I noticed that the latest version of syscheck cannot complete the check and hung after few minutes of running. Does this mean anything is wrong?

I installed d2x-v8-final. everything ran smoothly with Neo/CFG/GX/Wiiflow.
syscheck will hang at the 'corrupted' ios when testing. u need to re-install that ios, in order to get syscheck runs completely.
well, u may like to try something backward for an experiment with ur keys (16/32 gb). completely format the whole key to wbfs, then transfer one or two ISOs into it, using Wii_backup_mgr.
put the Neo/CFG/GX folders (i.e. with the respective icon, boot.dol, meta) into apps folder in SD card (u already knew this, perhaps !)
plug in the key to the proper usb port of Wii console.
experiement from HBC, then Forwarder Channels,......
by the way, in every LOADER, there's a feature for u to select the game partition in usb device. checked ??
