I'm trying to resoft-mod but the guide tells me that I NEED to install the shopping channel update, but when I run the Verify program, I ALWAYS get an error.
I never use the shopping channel - do I really need to install this update or can I skip this part? Or is there another rar somewhere?
Sorry if others have already talked about this, but the search option here never shows anything (my fault, I'm sure) and there are over 1,600 posts to go through...
Sorry, I forgot to add that I've tried to download and unzip the rvl-shopping file 3 times now and still get the error.
EDIT: I just downloaded and installed 7-zip and it's the same result. WinZip and 7-Zip both open a file which gets an ERROR.

Shopping channle is needed mostly to play online. I think you can skip it.

Should work with 7zip; try with winrar, or on another PC...
I have used the archive last night and it was ok, verified and installed succesfully.

I tried to download to the desktop and extract to there... same error. I think that the online file's corrupt - someone should check this.
Anyway, I won't be playing online (maybe MH3 if I ever get it going, but doubt it), so if it's only needed for this purpose, I'll follow your advice and skip it.
Thanks for the quick reply.

Okay, I did it! Excellent.
The problem now is that because I resoft-modded, I've lost ALL COVERS and DISC PICTURES! This is very annoying.
I moved the old file which held all images back onto the SD card (which now only contains the apps folder) but when I load up USB Loader GX, I don't have any pictures.
Because I skipped the shopping channel, I don't want to connect to the net... but then, this never used to work anyway and I had to download via Wii BackUp Manager and move all images across to the correct folder.
Any help here is appreciated.

You have to go to the settings in GX and change the custom paths to point to the folder your images are in.

Thanks. I didn't see the option at first but was sure that a staff member knew what he was on about. Problem solved. Thanks again.

I softmodded from this guide today. Followed word for word. Wii games are working fine.
Are the loaders, specifically USB Loader GX up to date versions ?
the info in the crsdits of loaderGX were unclear to me.
There's a link to r1209 loaderGX that I found. It has 3 folders with a dol and elf file in each.
Should i use these ? what do I do with them ?

If you want to use the r1209 version of GX, pick one of the folders (i recommend using 249 first, and if things dont' work out, try another one). Take the boot.dol file in that directory and replace the boot.dol file located in your SD:/apps/usbloader_gx directory.
Note, this won't change the version number shown in HBC as you've not edited your meta.xml file. If you want to do that manually, you can do so with any text editor, just don't break the XML in the process. so unless you know what you are doing with XML, best to leave it alone.
Then, launch it and you should be running the lastest version of GX. To verify, go to settings, last page of options to credits, and then it will be shown in the upper-right corner.
Unless you want to GameCube load games using Dios Mios, there really isn't any need to upgrade to r1209. The 3.0 that came with app pack will work just fine for Wii games.

As far as the GX version in this guide, it was the last official release. There have since been some modifications, specifically regarding Dios Mios. If you plan on playing GameCube backups from HDD then you will need r1209. If not, then the version included in this guide is fine. To install 1209 simply copy the boot.dol to the apps/usbloader_gx folder and overwrite the existing boot.dol.
