Thats what I was afraid of...
The only issue is I don't have a pc capable of burning my own disks, and my wii obviously cant do it. Thankfully I have a WiiU to play my games on, but sadly I don't believe I can move over online save data and I have over 1400 hours clocked on MHTri (with incredibly awesome gear, plus I use riivolution to play ultimate monster hunter)

Welp, could anybody recommend a good group who can do Wii repairs that WONT gut away all of my mods/saves? I found one site online but I dont wanna trust my console and 75+ bucks to have some guy bang on it with a hammer in his garage.

Or I guess I could find a newer Wii, mod that, and transfer over my save data (I can do that right? Even if its online data? Or is that permanently linked the the original wii it was created on?)

    Really... very stuck.
While I'm glad you have resolved your issue, I'd point out the IOS pack was inapplicable to you (as the Wii originally was @ SM 4.3). Folks really need to pay attention to guides or tutorials --- blundering through is at your Wii's peril.

You could opt to do the job yourself. You can purchase a new drive and the triwing screwdriver for much less than sending your Wii off to someone (check ebay). SS2 wrote a fantastic tutorial on how to replace parts. Check it out HERE.

Please help - Softmod not working.

I resisted softmoding my Wii but reached a point where I can't keep replacing discs that my kids scratched. Before I started, I read a lot of comments and different descriptions of the process and started once I felt comfortable. I followed the very excellent guide and everything went along smoothly. I connected a 1TB WD My Book (partitioned 500 GB WBFS and 500 GB Fat32) and had no trouble using any of the USB loading applications to copy to the hard drive. The problem comes in afterwards. I cannot open/play any of the games that were moved to the drive.

I copied five discs to test them initially.

MarioKart Wii - goes to a black screen after selecting the driver.
Super Mario Bros Wii - music and intro screen play but goes immediately to black screen after intro screen - the lights on the remote turn off and cannot be reinitiated
Tiger Woods 2008 - blank screen
Super Mario Galaxy - blank screen
Skylanders Giants - finds the portal then stops working.

I looked at a number of forums for issues and there is too much information for me to figure out what to do next. I tried changing the video to PAL, NTSC, game default, etc. But no difference (PAL mode was not supported).

Can someone please give me an idea of what to try next? Please let me know if I can post additional information.

    Thanks for your help.

Sounds like your HDD may be going into sleep mode. Disable any power saving mode on the drive. Also, Skylanders loads with cios 223.

Thanks cjizzle for the quick response.

I cannot figure out how to check if the drive has a sleep mode and if it is enabled or how disable it. I googled it and there does not appear to be a way to disable sleep mode on WD drives. I am not sure that is the issue though.

I have tried this setup with both the WD HDD and with an 8 GB Kingston thumb drive. Both had the same results.

You can set sleep timer on My Passport drives with WD Drive Utilities (might work with My Book drives), however, I think you might need to use WD Smartware for a My Book drive.

Just to make super double extra sure I decided to post a syscheck to make it 100% certain whether my issue with loading DVD's (Wii Disks, AND DVD's wont load when using WiiMC either. It says "this disk format is not accepted") I decided to post a complete syscheck to see if everything is up and running properly.

Again, I followed the guide to a "T" but I'm not sure if missing any cIOS's which weren't included in this guide might be causing it or not.
