It's listed as "Optional --- but Recommended." Since you're in for a penny, in for a pound -- why not do it now, why put it off until later? To answer your question, yes technically it can be done later. Pay particular attention to the directions in that specific block of instruction.
Thanks for this guide. I was able to softmod my Wii
Thanks so much for the guide but I am running into a couple of problems. I just bought a new black wii(bundled with NSMB 4.3U) and was able to complete all the steps of the softmod guide without running into any problems.
I downloaded the app pack provided in the guide and put it on the sdcard but is there anything further I need to install to get usbloadergx to work besides just having it on the sdcard? Currently when I put in my formated USB (lexar 32gb jump drive), usbloader will freeze on a screen saying "initialize usb device". I also tried opening wiiflow but it says on the opening screen and the wiiflow logo just flashes. Can anyone help me out or sugest what steps I can take from here? I am totally new to this so any help would be appreciated, thanks so much!
Is the drive compatible and plugged into port 0?Originally Posted by ayahoashi

The sd card came with wii and I can't see any reason how it can be the problem if it installed the other wad. But just to be sure I am going to order another 2GB Sandisk SD card. That is the only thing I can think of that might help with this -1 error when installing cIOS61 (wad).
On wiihacks you also read downgrading the SM is a risk as well.
More and more you read it's NOT recommended.
Depending who you ask, some say take the original Nintendo SM 4.3 update and forget about it.
At that point I did not downgrade and left it as is.
With my original SM 4.3E everything is working fine.
Doing a lot of reading I would say change it to not recommended if you can install BootMii as boot2.
But that is just IMHO.

There are multiple reason why we recommend doing the downgrade. First off, as long as you follow instructions, it is no more dangerous than taking an "official" update. It all operates on the same principle. Follow the instructions and don't lose power during the process, pretty simple. Anything that was read on this site regarding not downgrading was probably very old. There was a time where downgrading a 3.4 sm to anything lower would brick certain consoles. That does not apply to downgrading any 4.3 to 4.1.
As far as the benefits, 4.1 enables region free disc loading, allows the use of bannerbomb, as well as provides the capability for multiple ways to fix your console (that arent possible with 4.3) should you do something to brick your console.
Those are some of the reasons why we, as avid wii modders, do highly recommend doing the downgrade. Yes it is optional, but if you want added brick protection amongst other things this is definitely the way to go.
Just wanted to make it clear as to why we recommend it
