Yes , the sd card needs to stay in the wii, because the channels look for the apps on the sd card.

After pressing option 1 it ran the install for a few seconds after that the screen has gone black with a dark blue line at the top of the screen.
Any help would be great.

1 or 2 gig sd card, formatted to fat32. Have you tried the panasonic sd formatter yet?

Homebrew channel by itself isnt enough to usb load; you need custom IOSes. Check the newbies thread for more info & follow the whole guide.

ran into a snag
i seem to have done something wrong i dont know i followed to the t and when i extracted the final app folder i put sd card into my wii and when i try to launch any of the aps it returns to the home screen. any idea of what happened?

Double check the folder structure on your sd card, make sure you extracted to the root of the sd card. For example, for configurable usb loader it should be sd:\apps\USBLoader\boot.dol, the other loaders should follow this format as well.
Another thought, I have seen this happen on a friends Wii when a skylanders usb receiver was in the second usb port. Removed the usb receiver and the loader launched without issue.

I have bricked 3 WII so far in attempts to follow other guides and just when I was about to give it up and quit I stumble on yours. You are a God among men thank you so much for this exact and correct guide to softmodding.
