Hi, first thanks to everyone who contributed to this excellent guide. I have used mauifrog's guide before to softmod an older wii, but I have a question about modding my new virgin 4.3u wii. I would like to know if I should install the 4.1 system menu, or just leave the wii at 4.3 when I get to that part of the guide. Sorry if this is a stupid question but I thought I read before that downgrading was risky and could brick the wii? Also would I need to uninstall anything before or after installing 4.1? I'm a bit nervous because its been quite a while since I did my old wii. I don't want to f*** this up. Thanks for your help.

Would be really grateful if anyone could offer any advice.
I followed the guide and am sure i've done all of the steps.
I have a 1TB USB Western Digital Passport and a WBFS partition.
A lot of my games are not loading.
Go to a black screen and the remote loses connection with the Wii - only way out is hard reset.

Just To Let You Know I Have Manged To Get Homebrew Installed.
I Used DOP-Mii Changed My Firmware From 4.3e to 4.1e.
Then Everything Went Great.
The next Thing i Need To Look At Is What Kind Of USD H/D To Get Then Try & Set Up The USB Loader Stuff.
But Thanks A Lot You Guy's.
I Could Not Have Manged With Your Help.
You Could Say Am A. WII Bit Happier Now.

It's your wish, you could leave it on 4.3 (like I did) or downgrade to 4.1. The only benefit in downgrading is that you get to play out-of-region discs through the Disc Channel, which isn't worth the risk, especially when you have the option of USB Loading.

Softmodding a Wii, downgraded from 4.3 to 4.1 as recommended. Getting an error on NUS install of SM. Started off as error -106. Then stayed in Wii mod 3.2 since I dont want to restart it and find it bricked. Downloaded the 4.1 wad and tried installing it, fails when creating temp directory with -1 failure. Formatted card, tried again, same error. And when trying to downgrade from NUS again, getting -4 error. Assuming that means system menu is corrupt and cannot find settings for internet. Still in Wiimod though and would appreciate any help/guidance. I did try searching the forum for error -106 and it returns nothing. So wondering if someone could direct me to what im sure is already here somewhere.
edit- when trying to reinstall SM 4.3 or 4.1 in WiiMod now from sd card, could not open file: error from all three wads. error installing system menu. Ret: -1

Did you try a different drive? Try using fat32 with 32kb cluster size? Rip the games over again with no compression? Try loading the game using a different cIOS? Check to see if your mod is complete?

From what I hear, downgrading also offers more routes for troubleshooting/unbricking.

Post your folder structure so we can see if everything is on there correctly. You should also make sure to use a 2GB SD card and to do a checksum. You can also try another exploit but it is possible that the update could've removed the exploits.
