Go with a USB drive that uses an actual SATA HDD and not flash memory. I personally recommend and currently using a drive from the Western Digital Elements line as they are compatible and perform great. The plus is that they are USB powered and small. You should also make sure that whichever one you choose that it is USB 2 and not USB 3.

I was wondering why the guide has you format the SD Card at the beginning of chapter 2 and 3?

To make sure you don't have anything on there you don't need. It's really to protect you from mistakes.

I've done a few wiis of various versions using this guide but it seems that this time I can't even get out of the gate. I'm trying to mod a virgin system which is on menu 3.1. I've tried the first step to load the bannerbomb using the original and alternate files but all of them either freeze when trying to select the SD card from the channel menu or I get a black screen after being prompted to load boot.dol. The SD card is a 2GB formatted to FAT32. Am I missing something?

Maybe try another SD card or a game exploit? Last choice would be to update throught Nintendo to a later System Menu.

O.K. on my last legs here hence the post. I have tried to follow the thread as best I can and to my suprise I reckon I've done pretty well ( well I've impressed myself anyway ) but I just can't complete the update to 4.1e. I am currently on 3.1e and had previous softmod but started from the beginning. I have gone through everything installed homebrew, bootmii installed ios updates (all 25 installed ) eventually installed ios236 but I just cant seem to be able to install ios60. I've even tried to install the patched version but no luck. The 3 wads for sm 4.1e that need to be installed I only get 2 to install and the last one fails giving (-1036) error. Now I'm a complete newb and I'm sure someone is going to tell me I didn't follow something right but if someone could point out to me where I would be more than grateful.
Please reply in newb as I will get lost believe me !!

Tried multiple SD cards and all gave the same result. I thought about doing a system menu update from Nintendo to get to 4.3 and then modding from there but I was hesitant. Will these mods still work if I update to the most current menu?

The mods will work as I've modded my 4.3 Wii. Your problem could be caused by a corrupt file as you are not the first person to experience this issue. Try downloading them again just to see if corruption is the real issue.

OK tried another complete install. I suppose I didn't explain fully what problems I'm having confusion with. I have fully followed the thread up until after the nand backup (which I completed) The next step which is to open up homebrew then wiimod and choose wad manager, well wiimod won't open for me (black screen) so I was using MMM. When I then choose wad manager in MMM I get wads and directories showing up including ios60-compatability test wad, I press 1 for batch install but only about 5 install. I then go to IOS update in MMM and see 25 wads and all install no problem, I believe these to be the IOS's mentioned that must all install in the thread ( i think ) I can then go no further. Maybe because wiimod won't open that is whats throwing me off the correct process but I'm at a loss and in need of some direction
Thanks in advance
