I didn't realize that you had it as boot2. When you start up your Wii, do you see the bootmii screen? If you have hackmii v0.8, then you should be able to update to HBC 1.08 with that. Did you ever try BootMii Cfg Editor?

i had it as boot2 but installed it as IOS after that. do i need to uninstall it as boot2 or doesn't matter? i have tried bootmii cfg editor with no luck; all the values seemed to be correct. i have changed around the settings of them with no luck.
btw, does it matter for bootmii or other apps to be in SD:\apps or SD:\ (root)?
i think i saw HBC or wii menu when i started up wii; at one point, wii started up wtih bootmii though; what does this tell?

Always have Bootmii as boot2 installed if it is available, since it is far more useful. Think of Bootmii IOS as a trial version of software, while Bootmii boot2 is the full version. You can have both versions installed without any issue, but there isn't much point in keeping both.
The only reason I keep both is that the IOS version seems to do backups a bit faster on my SD card, although I have never actually tested it. Did you install everything with the Hackmii v0.8 installer, or just Bootmii as IOS?

I am a bit confused by your post, so I am sorry if this doesn't answer your questions. The Bootmii files need to go in "SD:\bootmii" and the application folders need to go in "SD:\apps" if you want them to be seen by the HBC.

i will make sure to install bootmii for boot2 with hackmii installer 08 and see.
btw, could you share how the SD card contents look like when backing up files using bootmii? directory names and filenames will help.

Bootmii with a backup looks like this:
    SD:\bootmii\armboot.bin
    SD:\bootmii\bootmii.ini
    SD:\bootmii\ppcboot.elf
    SD:\KEYS.bin
    SD:\NAND.bin

Edit: Calvin6 has had the same problem as you, and he just solved it. When you reinstall Hackmii, make sure that all accessories are unplugged!

    Thumbs up

    Brilliant!!

Just followed this guide on my 4.3E Wii and it worked a treat. Had 1 bad block on the NAND backup which from what i have read thas is a good result.

Got my 1TB Buffalo external drive attached and in the process of backing up my Wii games. Have noticed that loading times are reduced which is a small bonus.

Just have to figure out how to get the homebrew channel to use my HDD instead of the SD card now.

    Many Thanks

I hope i read the rules correctly and i will not be punished for my post...

Thank you very much for this guide, this is the best guide available.

Just one question: Is there a reason why when going into the game saves there is one there for the Homebrew Channel?

Just wondering if it is ok to delete or not etc...

No, don't delete it. You'll have to reinstall the HBC.

This is because the channel is installed as any other channel in the Wii.

The game save should be left there, it will not delete HBC but it saves things such as the theme your using (maybe other things). You can delete it if you want, but it will just be recreated when you start HBC again.

Edit: Richardsito is thinking of the channel rather then the save I think.

Thank you very much - @ richardsito & Krank. This is the first time i have modded a 4.3, such good information in the guide. I cant believe how much things have changed since the Twilight hack.

One other thing i was wondering: can you still use Wad Manager in the conventinal way?

    Regards
