I am a bit confused as to where I jump in on the tutorial. I have homebrew 1.0.0 installed to IOS58, system Menu 4.1E,Priiloader installed with Nand backed up and installed as Boot2 V4 and followed this very tutorial about a year ago. Everything is working fine apart from a few backups of my newer games which I have ripped to my USB drive formatted to WBFS. I'm just getting back in to the scene and have been reading up for a few days. I understand that it's a good idea to get the dx2 version 8 IOS as this gives better stability in loading newer or tempremental games. I would also like to update the shopping channels and other channels if needed.
Can I just jump in and update the IOS and shopping channel? and leave the rest as it has already been done? The tutorial says to follow the instructions from Homebrew 1.0.0 but I don't understand what that means. Sorry.

in the instructions where it says letter bomb and all that stuff it in chapter one part one, click on the + by softmods with homebrew installed. then update the wad's you want. but i would suggest just updating it all so it will all be compatible.

Guide is somewhat outdated
I greatly appreciate this guide in soft modding my Wii to run backed up games although there are a few areas which are out of date and render this guide useless for people whom have just bought a Wii with plus remotes ending in
instead I had to do hours of research to find that the
wad manager mauifrog suggests no longer works and needs to be replaced by a newer wadmod ,
also to allow games to be loaded from the back bottom (if horizontal) usb port no homebrew app will work as the remotes just die when usb loader gx or wiiflow are loaded up.
The only current work around is WiiGSC that I know of. (allows game shortcut channels therefore launchable with wii mote +)
which is not that easy to use and there are no guides on the net.
Really this whole thread needs updating as no-one i.e me is going to read through over 1300 pages of other peoples problems to try and find a solution to my own problem.
Effort was made on this thread but for new wii purchase-es it no longer works.

I did an experiment this weekend with several hdd's that were all the sae (WD drives 1.5 tb) where I made one fat32 and one NTFS. The fat32 worked great while the NTFS was 20% of the time recognized. My advice, go fat32, there's really no reason not to.

first of all, thank you for this guide.
some of it was a bit hard to get trought. I dont think it was mentioned for instance, that most of the files in part one had to be in the sd/root section fo your card.
But I guess that something people figure out when they have ripped their hair out for,... about an hour or two=)
I have one question. Ive downloaded everything according to this, and it all went smooth. priiloades saved to the settings suggested.
and now I know you said never to update (and priiloader should block that?)
but I have a couple newer games, and when I insert them I get a wii system update from where you should select to play your game.
what do I do now? is it safe to press "a" to continue? will priiloader take care of this? or is there something else I need to do aswell?
my wii is bought used, its from 2006, but i do believe this is the first time its softmodded. its version 3.4 I think. (iso, channels and such were updated according to this guide)
after reading a bit more I think i need to update my wii to a higher version? is this correct?
how do I do this?
should I jsut update my wii, then softmod it again or?
on page 1234 now,.. and there it says that the wii should be at 4.1 now, even thought it still shows 3.4 in my wii settings?
(I did follow the guide and updated everything, so i should be fine then?)

Thank you for the very 'n00b-friendly' guide for softmodding the Wii.
So far, I've followed Chapter 1 & 2 all with no problems. Last thing I did was installing 30 WADs & the 25 IOS update WADs succesfully.
After I restarted the Wii, I noticed that all the channels explained on Chapter 3 were already there (while I'm not even doing the Chapter 3 yet)
So, my questions are:
1. What are the Chapter 3 part actually do when it's already there right before I installed it?
2. About the extraction "APP-PACK-V3b.zip" to SD card. Does that mean we have to always put the SD card on the Wii in order to run those channels? From what I read on the Page 1 guide, it doesn't state anywhere about installing the WAD or anything. So, does that mean the SD card is ALWAYS NEEDED in order to run those channels(USB Loader GX, CFG Loader, WiiFlow, NeoGamma, etc.)?

Only Site Donators Can PM Staff
1. Only the forwarders are installed. They are basically just links to the apps that will be on your sd card after chapter 3.
2. Yes you will need to leave the sd card in your Wii. Thats where all the apps are located.
The Wii itself has only 512MB of memory. Having just the forwarders installed to it saves a lot of valuable space, and makes it much easier to update the apps as new versions with better compatibility and new features come out.
