Most likely in how you prepped the drive. If you're using fat32, review that guide in my sig and post there. Partition needs to be primary & Active

Thanks for your reply. I did prep it with the guide in your sig. I have it working now after updating loader gx and using d2x loader to load all the cIOS recommended for Wiiflow etc. but I have to plug the power into the drive while Loader GX is looking for the drive in order to get it to initialize correctly. If I have it plugged in when I load GX or any loader it freezes when it tries to init the drive. The only theory I can think of is it has some kind of standby and because the Wii isn't accessing the drive at all at first it is going into it immediately (instead of the 30 minutes the drive is supposed to wait to do so). I still don't know why it wouldn't simply wake up though if that was it. Also strange once I get it loaded with the workaround I can go too the main menu, homebrew, other loaders, etc., and back again and it will continue to work correctly until I power the Wii down. I have verified the drive is shutting off when the Wii does so I know it's not the in between sitting around. I'm messing with WD drive software now to see if there's some kind of way to disable anything like that. If not I may take it back and grab the same/sister drive without the external power supply and see if that one handles any better. (Both drives are on the working list)

Update - Found sleep mode settings in WD's Win software and disabled. No luck.. Sigh.

Followed the guide to a T and went from firmware 4.3u to system menu 4.1. Thanks for such an excellent tutorial.

Forgive my noobness, I used to have a hard modded wii.... but I have a couple questions.

    1. In multi mod manager my ios is listed as 'IOS60-v54321,' I thought they were supposed to be listed as cIOS? according to the 'wii hacking' beginners thread
    2. I have a D2C console I bought used from gamestop. For some reason I don't need neogamma to load a backuped disc, they just show up in the disc channel?
    3. Also, the only way I can get into priiloader is by holding the reset button, but not through the multi mod manager app. Is that normal as well?

    Thank you

    questions were quoted from asmitty:

    afaik,
    1. "In multi mod manager my ios is listed as 'IOS60-v54321,'"...that's correct, HBC shows the IOS.
    2. "I have a D2C console I bought used from gamestop. For some reason I don't need neogamma to load a backuped disc, they just show up in the disc channel?" .... if a modchip or SoftCHIP was installed, NeoGamma is just the alternaitve.
    3. "Also, the only way I can get into priiloader is by holding the reset button, but not through the multi mod manager app. Is that normal as well?"...press-&-hold RESET to activiate PriiLOADER from power on status. normal. Or, u could get into PriiLOADER by HBChannel/apps.

    correct me if wrong,
    Thank you

Thanks for the answers. Maybe the previous owner chipped the wii. Might open it and find out.....

One more thing. I was thinking of buying a wiimote plus. I heard that some are incompatible with homebrew. However, all the apps in homebrew appear in the system menu also. Will the wiimote plus work if the usb loader is launched from the system menu instead of the homebrew channel?

    Thanks

    Question Super noob

Hi, what a great site. I have a mega noob question, I got wii 4.2u, does that mean I follow the 4.2 guide, so 4.2 and 4.2u are the same?

The usb loader is a homebrew app, regardless from where it was launched from. If you have an incompatible remote, it will not work in the app.

4.2 is the system menu version, u is the region (U=US, E=Europe, K=Korea, J=Japan). Follow the 4.2 directions to launch the hackmii installer, then download the modpack for your region.
