Hey, well before I attempt this guide I think I should explain the whole situtation.
Okay well first off I'm not very good at this hacking thing, by this I mean if you give me a guide I will follow directions and yeah I'd be able to do it, but I'm not good at the lingo, I don't understand what they mean, what are they for and blah blah blah, so I'm clueless but I'm still able to follow through.
Anyways I first started getting into the thought of hacking one day about sometime in Febuary, came home from work and I wanted to play something else besides COD, so I hopped online looked for some ways to get HBC on youtube and finally found a reliable one. I did correctly, I got NeoGamma, imgburn and Wad Manager and all that stuff. I burned a couple of games, they didn't work at first try so I burned them again and again and found out the discs I was using were +R and -R works better. I buy a new set and they don't work all the time but after I unplug my wii and reboot ythey work. I downloaded Dead Space burned it on 2 different disc with different speeds, one at 4 and one at I think 2 anyways I found out you need a patch or something like that (this is what I meant above by I didn't know lingo terms) and so I deleted my current HBC and used another guys download pack, that didn't work did the same thing and finally I gave up and stuck with my current hbc. Turns out I removed wads or ios (once again this is what I meant) and I didn't know but something didn't feel right. I also have Preloader v.29 but I tried updating to V.30 it would never let me. Anyways skipping ahead I didn't really mess around with anything cause I didn't wanna brick my wii. Towards sometime in June before I left for Greece I popped in Modern Warfare and I had a update so I updated like an idiot, Big mistake as I realized after that I had an out of region update or something. So I found out a few days ago I was semi bricked. I can't access wii settings, can't play GC games (only through Geck OS !.9.3) and I've been looking for a way to get out of the semi brick and just get back to either 4.2u like I was originally or get done with hacking and reformat the wii then update to 4.3 and wait for a hack to come later on.
Now I just need a way out of the semi brick. I do not have a NAND back up, my Wii is from 2007 and my HBC is at 1.0.6, not the recent update cause they keep asking me to update it but I don't wanna mess with anything untill I'm 100% sure.
Would this guide work?
Thanks and yes I wrote a lot, I'm use to writting long stories like these.

Advice on 4.1 downgrade
It's been said before, though it's worth saying again ...Thanks mauifrog!
Q: If I originally skipped the 4.1 downgrade step (Chapter 2, Part 2) how should I do it now after completing the later steps?
Why am I asking? I am still getting drive read errors (i.e. 1167) in after successful completion of this guide. I could just need a new drive, it's an old d2c from '06. But the problems started back in late '09 right after N auto upgraded my softmod 4.1 to 4.2. Soo.... going back to 4.1 is my last step before buying a new DVD drive.
FYI. I did search through for this answer and only saw an answer in response to a partial brick(mine is fine). I belive you advised using priiloader?

You know, this guy has a point - it doesn't actually specify in the guide that it's LEGO indy... I know from reading other threads that it IS Lego Indiana Jones.

Once upon a time, I had USB Loader GX running just fine on a 4.2u with cIOS38 rev14 and thought I would live happily ever after.
Then Metroid Other M came out and it kept crashing once you got to a certain point in a cutscene about 15 minutes into the beginning of the game, prior to any save point. Meaning every time I made a cfg change I had to sit through the extensive BS instead.
Research convinced me to upgrade my cIOS to rev17. I used the installer, did the network install. It worked! I could now play M:OM. Yee-haw!
So after 30 minutes of cutscenes and 10 minutes of actual playing time, I gave it up and turned the Wii off for a while. Later I turned on some Beatles Rock Band, also running from USB Loader GX. It hung for a couple of seconds, several times each song, breaking my streaks and frustrating me to no end. Tried Guitar Hero Metallica, same result. Tried GH5 from the disc. Same result.
I had read that Hermes IOS222 is the best for music games, so installed it. Same result. Guitar games still hanging every song. So I came and looked on wiihacks, found a thread kind of like this one for 4.3, and decided, ok if there's a way out, I'll try installing official 4.3
Well, number one, the update actually appears to have fixed my guitar game issue. Tested with several songs on GH5 via the original disc.
I've still got HBC, and it seems to run all the regular homebrew (emulators, etc.)
When I run TBR I get an error because it can't become god. Same with cIOS236 Installer. Any Title Deleter can't delete stub 254 or presumably anything else. 254 was the only item there above 200.
So here I am stuck in 4.3 without the cIOS necessary to run my games off the USB drive. I'm waiting for a hold I have at the library for LEGO Indiana Jones, but while I wait to try, does this flash any red lights for anybody more knowledgeable about this stuff? Could I be hooped? Is there a way around all this through HBC?
Will Indiana PWNS get my needed software into a mode where it's able to rewrite the IOS?
