Part 2- Install The HomeBrew Channel and Bootmii
Read the Scam warning and press 1
It may take a minute or two for the "press 1" to appear- be patient
    Install the HomeBrew Channel
Install Bootmii as Boot2(boot2 may not be available, IOS installs automatically)
    -bold red emphasis mine

Bootmii IOS doesn't install automatically. You have to select it, and tell it to install. If you don't (because you read this guide and it said it was automatic), then when you try launch bootmii from the HBC, it doesn't load, something else does.

Note, I'm not bitchin', just pointing this out for others, and maybe suggest the OP be changed. automatically to me means it does it on it's own, not I have to make several button presses to make it happen.

For anyone having trouble at this step, it took me a fair bit of web image searching to realize that I wasn't looking at bootmii at all after launching from the hbc, but...uh....we'll ya'll know what it is, I'm not that smart yet, still doing my nand backup right now. Some kinda wad manager maybe?
For any noob, if you launch bootmii from the hbc to do your nand backup and you don't see 4 icons in the middle of your screen, then you didn't automatically manually install it. Go hit the bomb in messages again and manually install bootmii as ios...

I see how that could be misleading, but I think it refers to, if you
install Bootmii as Boot2, Bootmii as an IOS will be installed as well.

Aha, that's a reasonable use of the word automatically. But if that's the meaning, then there are no instructions for installing bootmii ios for those that can't install boot2.

BUT!!! I'm fully homebrewed, bootmii'd, nand'd, wiiflowed, gx'd, hbb'd, oh my! Thanks all!

Just need to see if I can use an USB HDD with the fat32 partition smack dab in the middle of the drive, (between several ntsc and HFS+ partitions no less!), somewhere I read it had to be the first partition, we'll see! (eta, it works, OMG this is so awesome! Got the wii for the kids years ago and never played it myself outside the obligatory help sessions, hacking it is more fun than playing it! Shhhh, don't tell nintendo, they'll sell a hacking game for $65 with 14 levels and bad bad bosses for each modification!)

Hello everyone, I have literally opened my new wii about an hour ago and decided to softmod my wii. I followed this tutorial from start to end and it was great. Everything worked and installed properly.

I have now got my head round running games on my external hdd, but I got two questions.

Are there any channels that came originally on the wii that I can't start or it will brick my wii? Sorry if this is noobish question but I don't want to risk anything. All I know is to not update from Nintendo or it will brick my wii....

I have original game discs that I want to play from both gamecube and wii platforms, can I just slide it into the wii and load it of the disc channel or do I need to use one of the softmod apps?

Also I installed the shop channel just for the sake of completeness from this guide. What does this do? Is this any different from the original shop channel?

Thank you very much especially to the author of this great tutorial.

    1) No
    2) Just pop them in and play them
    3) No difference

    Priiloader wont install

Hello, first of all i want to thank you guys for this thread, it is easy to follow and amazing in so many ways. I am having an issue though and after a good bit of research i cannot find a solution. I am on part 3 and i cannot install priiloader. My wii is 4.3u and i used Letterbomb, and followed all other steps. My remote will sync after loading Priiloader from the homebrew channel but then i am stuck on the warning screen and cannot press any buttons(and the remote is synced) so i cannot press +/a to install it.(it is a newer nyko remote but if i keep forcing it to sync it eventually does despite what most sites say about new nykos, i have used it that way to install everything from the homebrew channel so it has worked so far there.) I bought a new wii remote and that simply wont sync even if i try to make it, and the classic controller doesnt make a difference. I appreciate your time and help...so close yet so far!

I am trying to use the mauifrog mod Any guide and I am having problems getting the wii to auto load sd card so I can get to priiloader. I modded a friends wii  few years back and I remember having the same issue but I forget how to resolve it. When I put the sd card in it shows it having used blocks but the save blocks are blank. I am almost positive the 2gb Sandisk sd card is compatible as it is the same type I used last time. I am almost certain I am having either a file structure issue or a format issue. So my first question is what should the files look like when on my sd card? And second question is what is the proper way to format sd card? the current way i have it is sd:apps(folder),private(folder),wad(folder),boot.e lf. And I have tried every way but the right way to format. I've tried panasonic and windows format tools. All different kb sizes, full erase, quick erase, and still no luck. Once I can resolve this issue I think I will be good to go on the rest of the mod. Any help in resolving this issue will be greatly appreciated.

I am on system menu 3.1. Virgin wii.
