you have a small, very little button on the side of the sd-card. Move it and it will be unprotected.

It is mandatory to format the SD every time it is requested.

    Thank you for replying.

It worked perfectly before, but I searched for an entire day to find out what the problem was and nobody seems to have it or at least not related to softmodding. I even tried searching on Youtube for the noise it makes but nothing there either (they all have a humming noise of the spinning disc, mine isn't like that).

The discs sound fine when they go in, but make the rattling noise when it tries to load. So I believe the lens working overtime trying to get a read.

I'm guessing the lens is damaged or dirty. Strange though because I tried a GC game and it works fine.

It just seems a massive coincidence that my games can no longer play literally right after the softmod.

@gamer98420 I know you're joking but the only that moved was the SD card going in and out and a GC controller plugged in at one point, then the HDD in.

I don't have any burned games, these are all games I bought.

I will be getting a lens cleaner today and if that doesn't work I will look into replacing the drive.

    Thanks for the replies.

EDIT: I found a video of the noise (beware really high pitch background audio):

Oh and I'm not careless with stuff like this guy seems to be.

I have a Wii with the modchip Wiikey 1 at version 1.9g (the one needed to play Super Mario Galaxy). Can this modchip conflict with the softmodding in any way? Do I have to remove/update the chip?

    Thumbs up Thanks a lot

This is the most helpful and detailed guide on how to softmod your wii. I really appreciate you people for sharing this with the community and as a sign of gratitude I'm making a small donation... ( Much less than what the scammer asked for, but symbolic, as i'm not rich... ) Thank you again!!

    Hi,

I have questions about Chapter 1.

First Q is - in Ch. 1, Part 2, the second to last last line says "prepare the SD card" - how am I to do that? Is that something to do while the SD card is in the Wii, or should I take it out at that point? I'm confused.

Second Q is - In Ch 1, Part 3, the instructions say

    "Make a nand backup
Press Power, Power, Power, Reset, Reset (or use gc-controller)
Power = Right, Eject = Left, Reset = Select"

Am I supposed to literally press the Power Button on the Wii console 3 times, and then the Reset Button 2 times? Or will there be buttons on the screen to press? It seems strange to press the power button while I'm fiddling with the guts of the Wii, it makes me nervous!

    I don't have a GC controller (GameCube?) - do I need one?

This part REALLY confuses me, I won't begin until I have this explained clearly. Thanks for the help.
