Hey I'm completely new to this - just got my first wii on monday actually. I haven't attempted anything yet because I want to read through all the guides thoroughly first. But I have a question- when I actually do softmod my wii, should I follow the original post? (partitioning the external hd into 2 parts: one for apps and one for games - or can I follow the more recent guide to just fat32?) Also, I noticed that a new cios pack was posted, would I be able to just use that or is it recommended to just follow the guide first then make the updates later?

Thank you in advance! And sorry for being so noob-ey..

    Update an already modded wii?

I have a 4.2u softmodded wii that was modded at least a year ago if not farther back than that!

I'd like to update, as I have a few newer games that I've added to my USB drive that aren't working correctly.

Can I just follow this guide straight up like it's an unmodded wii in order to update or are there other things I'll run in to that need to be done?

Not all of it. I.e. NAND backups require an SD card.

i'm really not trying to be repetitive here. i know that is frowned upon on sites like these and for good reason. i've been messing with this thing nonstop for 2 weeks straight and i've finally gotten it resoftmodded and working and all i need to know is if i can play actual wii games on it. not burnt ones or ones from the usb loader. actual wii games you would buy in the store. the way my wii was modded before i could. probably was a different way than this guide suggests you mod your wii. by doing it that way have i disabled the wii from being able to play factory games?

Just put the disc in and play, this mod does nothing to prevent that. How else would you be able to get your games to the hdd if it couldnt read retail discs anymore?
