I just spent the $70 for Skylanders and the game is prompting for an update which I told my son NOT to go through with, and he listened (Yeah!!!)

Now, imagine an 8 year old with a brand new Wii game that he is told NOT to play with until Mom gets it ready...

So, long story short, I already have Homebrew channel and DOP-Mii v1.3, Priiloader, Syscheck, and WAD Manager 1.7.
    System menu is 4.1U.

I read (and re-read a few more times) Mauifrog's guide to Softmod any Wii but I have the feeling that I shouldn't be starting from scratch and can probably just get a wad (or something) to update the system menu to what Skylanders wants (which I have yet to find out...)

I've been at this for almost 4 hours and I decided that a donation is warranted to get good advice. Syscheck is below.
Thank you for a great site and excellent forum.

    Spoiler

Your mod could use some updating, you are missing some ios/cios. Look at the "what this guide installs" spoiler on the first post and compare it to yours, you will see the differences.

As far as the update goes, good call on not taking it! Your priiloader must not be configured correctly because it should block the updates for you. Check the setting (hold in reset while you power on wii) and make sure the "block disc updates" and "block online updates" hacks are ENABLED. If they are and it still prompts an update then it is bacause you need to update or add an ios ( which would be included in the update) to run that game. The guide is simple to use and has instructions for people in need of updating.

Just thought I'd mention it, as you failed to disclose the specifics recommended to you in that now-closed thread.

That being said, this is mauifrog's guide and he's forgotten more than I'd ever know with regard to alternatives to successfully softmodding with the possible limitation you mentioned. You can take his advice or mine --- but his will always be better
Thanks again for the info. I was planning to do the disc trick mauifrog suggested, but actually picked up an original copy of Red Steel 2 in a local shop for 5 so I bought it and have used that to update to 4.1e.

My backups still play fine after updating and tomorrow I will try following mauifrog's soft mod guide again with bannerbomb on SD. I'll report back on how it goes as I'm not the only one challenged by this

Thanks guys for all the help, great forum, great community.

I'm following the guide step by step and I came to the part where it says,

"If you would lilke to update your wii iso - NOT needed for 4.3 wiis
    Download IOS Update.zip"

The problem is I don't know if I would like to update my wii's iso. I have 4.2u. Do I want to download the IOS Update.zip?

Hmmm...interesting lesson in logic here. Maui says "Not needed for 4.3 Wii's". 4.3 = not needed. His statement does not say "Not needed for any Wii", if it did it would be pointless to even have it there in the first place, wouldn't you agree? So, going upon the assumption that it is not needed for 4.3 Wii's, yet it is indeed needed for other Wii's, and your Wii is not 4.3, logic dictates that you would indeed need it.

Why do they call it common sense, if it isn't common? lol

Fantastic guide! I had an old soft-modded Wii and I wasn't sure what it had on it. This guide got me all straightened out and everything is working great!

Then why make it a choice? Say "Download ISO Update.zip" like the previous instruction. If you are given a choice, I would think more detail would be provided to help decide whether or not to include it. I prefer to understand everything before just doing it so in the future I can troubleshoot more easily.

To Mauifrog, don't get me wrong, I am greatly appreciative of your tutorial. I asked the question, because all the other stuff I read said to ask a question when you weren't sure. I guess some people would follow a donkey off a cliff before asking why we are going this way.

Either you have 4.3 and are good to go, or you have something less and need it.
Really an easy choice, no special training, or deep thinking required.

Some people defy logic and simply (regardless of what they say) look for a reason to argue, what can you do. You sure this isn't frac_king?
