I have an existing 4.2U softmod that I did 2 years ago. Is it worth trying to update the softmod to newer versions of HBC, USB Loader GX, new cIOS files, etc?

Did you follow this guide? If so, there's a spoiler to click to update your softmod. If you did not, start with the spoiler labeled "if you have HBC installed." Yes, it's worth updating.

    Thanks.
It was two years ago, so I don't recall which guide I used at the time. I did see the instructions listed if you already have a Softmod and HBC.

Then go with "if you have HBC installed."

    Restarting wii

I am running 4.1 U with a rather old wii (capable of boot2 Bootmii) so I know that it can read DVDs.
Although it was successful at fooling the System Menu/Disc Channel into believing it was a retail Gamecube game. Immediately after clicking on the Disc Channel, The screen turned blue and the wii restarted. Neogamma did essentially the same, but it stalled on a grey screen for awhile so I thought it was working, but then back to blue and reboot. /:
Can you think of any other reason why it might not have worked? /:
Similarly my wii is restarting with every wii back-up, regardless of whether disc channel, bakcup loader or neogamma. The original disc work properly.

Any ideas? (Couldn't find the answer to the above)

Thanks, I#ll give it a try and report back :-)

SoftModded summer 2010; Need to update; Where do I start?

I'm not very knowledgeable but I did follow the instructions last year (summer 2010) and successfully softmodded my son's Wii! (Yeah!!!)
I have all his games on USBLoaderGX and this has worked well until today...
I just spent the $70 for Skylanders and the game is prompting for an update which I told my son NOT to go through with, and he listened (Yeah!!!)

Now, imagine an 8 year old with a brand new Wii game that he is told NOT to play with until Mom gets it ready...

So, long story short, I already have Homebrew channel and DOP-Mii v1.3, Priiloader, Syscheck, and WAD Manager 1.7.
    System menu is 4.1U.

I read (and re-read a few more times) Mauifrog's guide to Softmod any Wii but I have the feeling that I shouldn't be starting from scratch and can probably just get a wad (or something) to update the system menu to what Skylanders wants (which I have yet to find out...)

I've been at this for almost 4 hours and I decided that a donation is warranted to get good advice. Syscheck is below.
Thank you for a great site and excellent forum.

    Spoiler
