Ya, that's what I was shooting for originally, but now I'm just trying to eliminate potential issues so I tried WBFS.
So for every attempt I make, I try starting the drive and then the Wii > Loader > time-out. Then I try turning the drive on after the loader starts the timer.
I did this when I set ios = 222 last, but no dice.

Any other suggestions? Do you think updating to hermes cIOS 222 v5 is worth a shot?

    Thanks

No I use v4. Try the 222 revision of Cfg by replacing the boot.dol (Cfg link in my signature). Also make sure the config is set to load IOS222. See if that makes a difference.
    Damn I suck!!!!

Ya, I was just checking some of those links. Thanks.
Ok so, being new to this, I'm going to confirm what I'm going to do. If I've misunderstood something, please correct me.

    1. Download and extract the cfg60-222.dol to the appropriate SD card folder for usb loader
    2. Rename/overwrite it as boot.dol
    3. Leave my current config.txt pointing at ios = 222
    4. Run through the 2 tests on the Wii

Yes except the cfg222.dol is not zipped. It is just a dol file so no need to extract. So copy it over to the USBLoader folder found within the apps folder (can't guarantee this will fix the problem, just something to try).
    Damn I suck!!!!

    Go into HB....
Press Home on wii remote....... Go into bootmii and select the icon with the arrow going from the chip to the sd card. (You will have to use the power and reset button on the front of the wii to navigate the bootmii menu, if these buttons dont work you will need a game cube controller).......

It starts to do the backup automatically.
You will need 550mb approx free on your sd card

Ya, I was mixing up two different things. I noticed that the loader in this 4.3 guide is v56 so I decided I should extract and update to v60 if I was to use the 60-222 boot.dol.
So I updated everything except for the forwarder wad (I couldn't remember where I install this, Priiloader? BootMii wasn't coming up from HBC), did the first test with the drive started first.

This didn't work, so half way through the stretched out timer, I powered the drive off/on and suddenly it took. Thanks again for your help!

One question remaining, what does the addition -mload do? I noticed somewhere the statement ios = 222-mload as opposed to the one I used ios = 222.

You get 2 options, Mload and Yal...use Mload. Just indicates you are using Hermes cIOS (not exactly sure what it means sorry). Also the forwarder channel does not need to be updated when you update to a different revision just so you know.

Ah ok, great, thank you. One of those choices must be the default when you don't enter it, I guess. I'll change that to mload now.

Would a Micro SD card work aswell, instead of just an SD card? I got a Micro SD and need to know if I should go buy an SD card.
