for GameCube games, the 32k FAT32 partition has to be the first one.

Which is why having a single one makes things easier, since the entire hard drive is the first partition.

Some of the other USB Loaders can access secondary and tertiary partitions for Wii Games, but Dios Mios, Devolution, and many other homebrew apps can only access the first partition of a drive.

So I just got a 4 TB Western Digital My Book USB Hard Drive and I wanted to see if I could get it to work on the Wii. However when I try to use EaseUS, it doesn't give me the option to format to FAT32 with 32KB cluster size. The lowest cluster size it will let me choose is 64KB. I've searched everywhere for a way to try and force this but the only thing I found was to possibly try formating from the command prompt. However I didn't understand what exactly I needed to type to get it to format it to FAT32 with 32KB cluster size. Anybody got any ideas of another program to try or what exactly I would need to put in the command prompt to try out that method? I have tried a 2TB and a 3TB Western Digital drive and both of them I was able to format and work properly on the Wii. So I'm assuming that if I can get the 4TB formatted properly that it should also work too. Thanks

When you create it as a new partition, 32k won't be an option. But if you choose to reformat a pre-existing partition, 32k should exist as an option.

Though, I've never tried it with a 4TB drive before, so let us know how that turns out. You may have to set up the first partition as a 2 or 3TB partition to get it to 32k and just use that much of it if you can't get the entire 4TB drive partitioned.

So I formatted my 4TB Western Digital My Book drive using the guide and set it to the lowest cluster size of 64k. After it was done I right clicked on the drive letter and chose format partition again but it still wouldn't give me the option to go to 32k. I'm pretty sure I had my 3TB Western Digital My Book USB Drive formatted as 32k. So just to see what would happen I tried clicking format partition on the 3TB drive and it too wouldn't let me go below 64k. So now I'm wondering if I ever even got my 3TB to format to 32k. But I'm almost positive I had it working on my Wii. I don't have time to test it on my Wii now but I was wondering if there was any way to tell what a drive's cluster size is set to? And also if you had any other ideas on how I can for a drive to be formatted to 32k clusters? Thank you.

Did you try creating a 2TB partition on your 4TB drive and seeing if you could get that to 32k clusters?

I just tried that and it worked. I set up a 1TB partition on my 4TB drive following the guide and it let me set that 1TB partition to 32k cluster size. The rest of it is still unallocated right now. So how do I need to format the rest of it in order to make it work for Wii games? Also, now that I am using a drive with 2 partitions, do I use it any differently than I would with a single partition drive? Like will I need to adjust any of my settings in USB Loader GX in order for it to read my GameCube and Wii games on both partitions? What I am thinking is all I need to have on the 1TB partition is the folder "game" with all my GameCube games in it. I don't think I will need anything else other than that, right? And then on my second partition I will have my "wbfs" folder with all my Wii games in there.

Dios Mios needs to be in the first partition, so you are set for that.

Not sure if all USB Loaders can find games in other partitions, but I know CFG can be set to do so. You can try others to see if they can as you wish. So if you set up the rest of the drive as FAT32 in a 3TB partition, you can tell CFG to look for the second partition to load the games (don't forget to save that config as default, or you will have to set it each time).

Then place your /wbfs directory in the second partition and you can load your Wii games from it.

But on the second partition since it's going to have Wii games on it, does it matter what the cluster size is set to? Otherwise I will just use 64k and see how it goes. Also, I plan on having my emunand and some roms for different emulators on the second partition. Don't know if that would have any effect as to how the second partition should be formatted.

Oh and do I need to set the second partition as primary and active? If I chose the active option I get a message saying that all other primary partitions will be set inactive if I make this one active. I'm assuming I don't want to do that then,

The first partition has to be set primary and active for Dios Mios to work.

The second partition can be 64k clusters. The 32k clusters requirement is only for GameCube games.

Just to give you an update, I was asking in the USB Loader GX thread (Link to external site removed) about the multiple partitions and was told that the second partition should be set to "Logical" and not "Primary". I'm going to give that a try once I get home and I'll post the results.
