Hey all, I have followed all the directions to format and prepare my new hard drive for use. But now when I go to use wbfs manager and load the drive to copy too, it will not open and I get the error message.... make sure the drive isn't in use yada yada. But its not use. Am I missing something here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you read the guide? No where in the FAT32 guide does it tell you to use WBFS Manager.

    I am using Windows.

I can't set the drive as active.

Under type it says GPT instead of primary. I know I had this drive working fine before and followed this guide with no issues. Why is my drive GPT instead of MBR now and how do I change it? I think maybe because I used on mac for awhile, I had actually installed Snowleopard on this drive. I wonder if thats my issue.....

OK, I did a wipe and got impatient and cancelled it during the operation. After that my drive was MBR. I guess its the partitioning scheme or something. Might be some useful info for someone, I didn't see it in the guide.

I looked over the guide again and there is some mention of this in Mac section using Disk Utility, there are instructions where you choose MBR instead of GPT. But I was doing the formatting in Windows and I could not find any such option in the partition manager program. I guess this has to do with the very first part of the drive, so I am guessing the wipe operation changed it to MBR even though I did not wipe the entire drive.

If you try to create a partition larger than 2gb, it changes it to GPT (as MBR can only support up to 2gb partitions). GPT supports larger partitions; perhaps you selected partitions exceeding 2gb?

I don't think that's right. All the drives in the example in the windows section are mbr. It's an 80gb drive and a single partition. I have it as mbr now and it works just like in the guide.

Being you gave no specifics, you gave little to go on. That GPT isn't normally used, selected, or invoked unless large drive or user error.

As I said, I believe it was gpt because I had used the drive with a Mac before I formatted it. It was a bootable snow leopard install previously. Formatting did not automatically set it to mbr. I had to use the wipe function to change it.

Hello, I don't see any option to ''delete'' or ''set active'' on my USB. I only get the option to format or copy at the top. How can I fix that?

    Using windows right?
there is a delete at the top as we'll, but perhaps you are right clicking the wrong section. The guide says use the section that shows the drive letter.

Setting active is is done after you format. Does it say primary as the type? If not you may be having the issue I mentioned a few posts back.
