Loud drive happened to me too. All the research I did points to a piece of metal rubbing against the arm that spins the disc. While I choose to just replace the whole drive you could probably just carefully bend that metal piece back into place if you want.

Well I got the loud drive and the read error again after it started working again. I have never taken my Wii apart, but the noise does sound awful. I'll see how it is after I clean the lens. Also is there a program to rip games on a PC because that could just solve my problem; I wouldn't even need to use the faulty drive.

I have a CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive. Is there actually a drive for reading GC disks?

Standard DVD/CD drive but it has to be a certain model/brand (unfortunately I don't recall what). There is a list of compatible drives somewhere online.

Well I'll pop in a game and see what happens

Edit: Darn it rotates and knows a disk is in, but doesn't do anything

Seems like I will need to finish these other 14 games and never use my disk drive again on my Wii :P

Edit 2: Ah I found online that most LG readers can read them so I might be in luck because another one of my computers has an LG disk drive. The one I tried had a Samsung one :/

Edit 3: Hey one final question. I guess I am using DIOS MIOS to load Gamecube games from disk. Would you guys recommend Devolution instead?

The list of known DVD drives was small back in 2007 when the list first existed. Most if not all of those drives aren't even made anymore.

As for Dios Mios vs. Devolution -- it's a personal preference. I think the staff is split pretty evenly over one method or the other. I use DM myself (never tried Devolution, but since I was able to get DM working, I've had no reason to try something else).

So does DM need to verify that I own a backup? Because since my disk drive doesn't work I don't see how I can get Devolution working because it requires a disk to verify a backup.

DM doesn't require disc verification, no. It also doesn't require a full 1:1 dump meaning you can use compressed images. My preference of Devolution is for a few reasons.

    1) Devo supports Audio streaming which several of my games use. DM does not so those games would have no music or in some cases no sound at all.

    2) Devo doesn't get installed to the system NAND. I don't like installing more to the NAND than what I need so I prefer to be able to run apps from my SD card.

    3) Devolution works with Wii U by supporting alternate controllers (Classic Controller, Classic Controller Pro, Wii U Pro Controller and Playstation 3 Controllers).

Well I have both installed now xD

Instead of buying a $50 disk reader replacement I might as well spend $300 on a used Wii U :/

Spend money to save money, right?

Edit: Last option would be to wait for Nintendont
