If you ever burn out the motor that controls the laser you can replace it can't you? Has anyone done this and know the specs and technique? I think this would be a great tutorial for everyone that's burnt it out.

I've been using Memorex DVD+Rs and haven't had a single coaster, even burning them at 2, 4, and 16X. Though as soon as I tried a Memorex DVD-R, at any speed....instant coaster.

I still find out it pays to go with what your Wii likes, everybody swears by Taio Yuden didsks these days, about 33-36 per 100 blanks, my Wii totally hates them ,ProdiscFO1 work absolutely brilliant, shame I can't get them anymore, Ritek GO5 work fine CMC Mag work fine, all these brands used to be less than half the Taio disks but all worked miles better, even my DVD player hates them, maybe it's just my burner that doesn't get on with them (Pioneer 116d)
but it manages fine with other brands, haven't tried Verbs for ages, I'm happy with the brands I pick,I haven't had any dics stop working, even from about 10 years ago from PS2 games. All discs have been -r blanks ,there again I've used DVD+r DL for Smash Brawl and they worked fine as well

I have to admit that I only burn them at 4x,all then play perfect, anyfaster than that and they skip, won't load etc ,tried different speeds with different brands but have stuck to 4x and never had any problems yet.

If you properly booktype DVD+R to DVD-ROM when burning it, and use a good DVD+R, there are no problems at all. But DVD-R is always preferable.

edit: didn't mean for the quote
i have an LG drive in my laptop, and have attempted now twice using TDK dvd-r discs, to burn wii sports resort, and have got coasters both time, neither even passed the verify on imgburn, let alone loaded up properly on my softmodded wii.

i tried burning at 2x and at 4x (4x is officially the lowest supported speed of the drive)

visually inspecting the burn there are visible splotches of unburnt dye near the outer edge of the disc...
i don't know if it's the media or the drive causing the problem, i'll have to pick up some verbatim discs and try them out.

ok i successfully burned muramasa at 4x on the tdk disc first time... it seems it might just be an issue with wii sports resort

    Dvd-r

    FYI:
Just burned my first ISO on an Imation DVD-R 16x, works fine!
Burned with ImgBurn, speed 1x, writer: LG BD-RE GGW-H20L YL05.
Burning on speed 2x resulted in a nice coaster.

A pack of 50 Verbatim DVD-Rs are 13 dollars at Best Buy. That's a good deal.

    Verbatim - 50-Pack 16x DVD-R Disc Spindle - 95101
