I got confused about installing priiloader because it said not to install it twice. If it wouldn't hurt anything....then y not install? It's a great guide, but a bit confusing if you're re-modding the wii IMHO.

So.... If I ripped a retail wii game with cfg usb loader, and converted it to iso using (wii backup manager?) Would it remove the disc updates automaticly?

I dont undertsand your first question but iif you're trying to update priiloader you can just run the installer again, no prob.

Yes to q #2. Once the game is ripped with a usb loader it will remove the update partition

Well I was just saying that mauifrog's guide could be more clear about re-modding the wii. It said not to install priiloader twice. It says "****Only install priiloader once, you need to hold reset to load priiloader****" I don't think that should be on there because it's confusing. I make sure to follow all instructions to the letter! I thought I'd better not install it again (because I've installed it during a previous softmod). I'm just glad nothing went wrong.

Following the guide here to install priiloader didn't help me that much. It installed fine, but the hacks hash wasn't working, and it's a different size than the one that came in the priiloader folder in the app pack on mauifrog's guide found at this link www.mediafire.com/?11nrocbakf8wmpt It would be nice if the link on page 1 install instructions for this guide had a hacks_hash.ini that worked! The title of this thread is "Install priiloader to block online & disc updates" unfortunately, without a proper hacks_hash.ini it fails to do that!

I had trouble with that guide to. Once I followed it, I was tied to it full stop. I believe he has modified Priiloader v0.6 to work with the custom system menu that installs, The "un-brickable or updatable system menu" or whatever.

Back when I installed it, I had all sorts of trouble with installing homebrew & other things. I needed to come here & ask for help for eveything, Or for modified version of the things I was trying to install. Like I said, I was tied to it.

IMO, I would uninstall that modified SM, Install the the official SM & start from scratch. Your only going to get problems with that modified SM further down the line, Trust me.

No, Softmod it at 4.2 & stay there.

My post above was about that custom system menu & the problems it sometimes has which can only be solved here (wiihacks) where people support & advise to use it.

Apparently you guys don't understand what is being done to your Wii consoles, so I will try to explain.

First, the "modified" system menu you are referring to is an official SM. The only difference is that it's version number has been changed. Why? To keep noobs who mess something up from ruining their softmod. During an attempted official update the big N checks the version numbers to see if newer ones are available. Since the SM version number in mauifrogs guide is elevated, it will not be updated. SM 4.2 and 4.3 were only created to kill homebrew, so there is no advantage to updating to those SM versions, none at all.

Priiloader 0.6 was not modified at all. The hacks_hash.ini was. If you look at the file itself the hacks are arranged by SM version number. In order to get priiloader to work with the system menu, the version numbers are changed in that file to match the version of the system menu, thats all.

What problems are going to arise, other than not being able to do an official update which would kill your softmod anyways?

    Exactly, Priiloader's hacks_hash.ini was.

So back when I used his guide with the custom system menu (A long long time ago), I asked a few other people that weren't from here why Priiloader 0.7 wouldn't work (Or any other version for that matter), & they had no clue why & were baffled at the system menu version to (Because this is the only place on the net that supports this kind of mod). I also had some advice to reinstall the 4.1 system menu & reinstall the homebrew channel to see if it helped, Only to find out after coming here to find that if I did, I would have totally bricked my wii (Needed to install IOS60 first over mauifrog's modified version other wise I would/could have bricked).

All Im saying is, Is that this mod is so uncommon, That if people have problems down the line, Or go else where for help, They will more than likely get the wrong advise or help with YOUR custom system menu. Thats all.

Also, His guide was the number one Wii soft modding guide around, I remember every site using it (Copy & paste), But not so much since this custom system menu. Why "try" & fix it if its not broken ?

Again, you are mistaken. Maui's guide would not have let you brick yourself. IOS60, 70, and 80 all were version patched to prevent N from stubbing them. There were no other modifications done to them. Doesnt matter what SM you installed (4.1, 4.2, or 4.3 any SM version they are on). That was the whole point in modifying the version numbers: to prevent people from accidentally bricking/updating etc. If you would have had a non-version patched IOS60 and running 4.2 or 4.3, a downgrade to 4.1 would brick you. Maui's guide prevents stuff like this from happening.

Ok, I'm going to have the last word on this.

The virtues of a version patched system menu has been discussed ad nauseam. At the end of the day, our staff feels that this technique is the best available to our users. This is what we recommend. If you don't like it, by all means, do whatever works for you. There is absolutely no value in debating the merits of a version-patched system menu at this point. As to what other sites are doing in this regard, to be honest, I don't care much. We support our users here using this guide, and have for some time.
