Just moded 2 Wii's today, both were running 4.3E and UK models, followed the ''Softmod any Wii guide by Mauifrog'' in the sticky, both OK no problems, purchased 2 hard drives brand new from Currys/PC World and both are working great.... details as follows

Western Digital Elements SE 500GB Portable USB 3.0/2.0 (No Power Supply Needed or Included) - Model WDBPCK5000ABK-EESN - Working Great No Issues in any of the loaders included with guide
Western Digital My Passport Essential 320GB Portable USB 3.0/2.0 (No power Supply Needed Or Included) - Model WDBACY3200ABK-EESN - Working Great No Issues in any of the loaders included with the guide

Please note, I can see somebody posted that the 320GB drive above only works with an external power suppply, all I can say is that their HD must be a different region than mine, as mine does not even have the ability to use an external power supply.

    Size: 3 TB
Brand: WD Mybook Essentials USB 3.0 + 2.0 Compatible (external power)
    Model: WDBACW0030HBK-NESN
    Format: NTFS
Firmware/Softmod: 4.3u blue wii/Latest "mauifrog's softmod any wii" guide update as of 3/23/2012
Loader: USB Loader GX and CFG Loader Working, Wiiflow not working.

With both USB Loader GX and CFG Loader, and even WiiMC, it is necessary to press the power button to turn on the drive before starting the wii in order for it to work, even though the drive will go on without pressing. If you don't press the power button, the loaders will not read it. Wiiflow will not recognize it despite many efforts.

    SEAGATE ST9160310AS Momentus 5400.5 SATA 3Gb/s 160-GB

WORKING PERFECTLY. I tested it just with USB Loader GX, but everything works fine and super smooth. You might want to add this to the main list, since I didn't see it there!

I was using wbfs format, but I believe you can use NTFS or FAT32 as long as you put it in a /wbfs folder
