I would recommend a Western Digital usb hdd that has an external power source (not usb powered). I just bought a WD My Book Essential 2TB that works with the Wii, I can also vouch for the 1TB version of the same drive. Western Digital is popular with Wii softmods, but read this thread and the forum, there is a certain WB usb hdd that is not good because the spindown function cannot be turned off.

I would try it out if there was nothing on it but it is loaded with programs for my young kids lol. If it does work though, I will buy the same one, if not, i will have to get something different.

Only Site Donators Can PM Staff
you can still stick a game on it and see if it works.....just a suggestion. Like stomp said though, you usually can't go wrong with the WD.

Do not purchase a Seagate FreeAgent Desk, I am very unhappy with mine.

I have an old Maxtor DiamondMax 120 GB internal HDD in a Rosewill IDE to USB enclosure, loaded up with plenty of games, working perfectly with Configurable USB Loader.

Brand: Western Digital Elements USB 2.0 Midnight Black Portable Hard Drive
Model: WDBAAR6400ABK-NESN - Retail
Link: Newegg.com - Western Digital Elements 640GB USB 2.0 Midnight Black Portable Hard Drive WDBAAR6400ABK-NESN - External Hard Drives
Some minor issues mentioned before probably caused by spin down. Issues include games freezing between cut-scenes (I found if I unplug and plug back in the USB cord it will start up and pick back up) Also more seriously, when playing emulators, it has froze and wiped the external drive.
edit: Intellivision emulator is only for SD cards not for HDD's. Don't try to run off of HDD, it does bad things...
