Size: 250 G
Enclosure: NexStar Hard Drive Dock NST-D100S2 - Vantec
Format: Fat 32
Loader: Configurable USB Loader and WiiMC
Working/Not Working: Working
I choose this enclosure because the power button is at front and easy for the kids to power on.
Tip: When you buy an enclosure. You don't need extra funky features. i.e. eSata, OTB, etc. Remember you are buying the enclosure for the Wii and it does not have eSata port.
Brand: Western Digital
Model: My Passport Essentials WDBAAA3200ARD-00
Enclosure: USB2.0 self powered
Firmware/Softmod: 4.1E / Modmii IOS58
Loader: CFG Usbloader v63 via USB forwarder
Working/Not Working - Working Perfectly
Bit of info for people having trouble with these drives. The way i have it set up is not
necessarily the best way, however it works for me.
CFG Loader v63 using IOS248 base 56 (gaf's usb loader tutorial)
WD firmware updated, sleep timer set to "never" in smartware.
Use the above to hide the VCD partition
Using Cile & Kranks tutorial ( thank you btw), format using Easus to FAT32.
I have successfully ripped 10 of my games to HDD and has been tested for over 15 hours of gameplay.
Titles tested include Super smash bros and NSMB. No problems.

Brand: Western Digital Elements SE
Firmware/Softmod: mauifrogs 4.3e softmod(unsure of the cIOS people are posting im a newb)
Loader: Configurable USB Loader using forwarder
Working/Not Working: Working
Worked with it plugged in before booting wii and played new super mario bros and barbie groom and glam pets for an hour.
Had issues with one game getting stuck at the loading screen (maybe a different ios?) like after it showed all the game maker logos etc it got to a worms screen and said loading but froze my wii, worms battle islands, unsure this is a HD problem or the game or IOS needs to be changed.Ill be trying some more games tonight, hopefully donkey kong country and maybe a need for speed.
Also my drive is listed here as working
Edit. Worms Battle Island worked on ios 223 so no problems with that game on this USB was just the wrong iOS.Code:http://wiki.gbatemp.net/w/index.php?title=USB_Devices_Compatibility_List#500GB

Iomega 480 GB external USB harddisk
It is one of those USB powered small 2.5" disk-drives in an external enclosure,
Works flawlessly !
My Wii runs system 4.2 and is softmodded using the tools and instructions found on this site under the name "softmod any Wii". Works great!
I have the 500GB WDBAAR5000ABK-00, USBLoaderGX works pretty well, it can crash when I set the Carousel to be multi-rowed, and when I scroll quickly from side to side it will show that the discs have no downloaded images. Games start fine but then they hang on a black screen at what seem like random places. I have gotten stuck on certain spots and then immediately retried and got passed them, only to get hung up on other spots. Only Donkey Kong Country Returns has had zero issues. Tiger Woods 2011 is a bad offender and I have put it on a 8GBUSBFlash Key and played many hours without issue. USBLoaderGX seems quicker with the FlashDrive as well. This leads me to beleive that the 500GB WDBAAR5000ABK-00 drive is not reading fast enough or maybe going into a spindown powersaving mode. I would really like to hear some suggestions to solve this. Thanks in advance.
IB-250U-B (Icybox enclosure) doesn't work with HTS42128 (Hitachi Travelstar) 75gb model...
