That's the problem. There isn't any. The only software available is a utility(windows) to make it sleep or turn off, nothing to disable sleep.

    "Question
Do Western Digital external hard drives spin down after a certain amount of inactivity time? How can I disable this feature?

    Answer
The external hard drives listed below will spin down (enter into power saver mode) after 10 minutes of drive inactivity. Once the drive is accessed again, the drive will exit from the power saver mode and spin back up.

Please Note: This is a permanent feature of the external hard drives and cannot be disabled."

    Size: 500gb
    Brand: WD
    Model: WDBACY5000ARD
    Enclosure:
    Format: NTSC
    Firmware/Softmod: SOFTMOD/ 4.3 U
    Loader: GX LOADER
    Working/Not Working NOT working

Hey guys!! I've moded four wi's now and Im working on my fifth. I always use WD, the old the one ( the fat Brick one, with the external power supply). Well for my latest mod I bought the western digital essentialWDBACY5000ARD , I tought it would be better because it was slimer and it looked nicer. Well I doesnt work with the wii, It doesnt load, and if it those load the game will stall's in the dark screen. I tried using a different HD to check the wii and it worked just fine. So I know for sure its the HD, I'm formating the Hd again through WBFS and hope it works. Anyone have an idea how to make it work?? Sorry If i sound weird but I havent slept all night trying to make it work. ONce again when I try to load the USB loader it lags really bad. Ansd if it those load the games seems to freeeze.

Also I just remembered this Hd drive has the new 3.0 USB, maybe that has something to do with it. Even though its meant to be faster
