    Seagate 320GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive ST903204EXA101-RK .

That's the same exact HDD I posted as working - LOOK HERE

** added to the compatibility list **

May I recommend you purchase a USB HDD that has an external power source and not one that gets it power from the usb port. I used this, Seagate 320GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive ST903204EXA101-RK, with my DVD player and it blew a circuit breaker in my DVD player after extended use.

Wow. That was blind on my part... I apologize for completely missing that.

I'm not familiar with DVD players that have circuit breakers inside them (that would have to be some major heavy duty DVD players) - maybe you mean a fuse? The fuse should burn if more than the expected current is pulled for too long a period of time.

I wanted to get a USB powered HDD to avoid needing extra cables. Maybe a current limiting device in the USB power supply between the Wii and HD would be safe for me.

If we make some very rough calculations... The Wii's power adapter provides up to 3.7 amps. USB's specification allows powering of devices using up to 500 mA (.5 amps), and a random website I found with no guarantee of being correct (Energy: How Much Electricity Does a Nintendo Wii Use?) said the Wii pulled 2.2 amps while playing a game.
2.2 + .5 = 2.7, which is still a full amp below the Wii's power capability. Maybe it's okay to use a USB powered drive.

Has anyone had any issues where a drive powered by the Wii damaged the console?

    Talking

Please add to the top, im sucessfully running a 2,5" Conceptronics CHD2SUB enclosure, it was just plug and play. Runned already for a few days, with western digital 250GB inside, WBFS formated, USB Loader GX and Neogamma Runns on 4.1E and 4.2E, no problems at all, just like my WD Passport. Must use both USB ports on Wii for this box.

    Hi!

I have a external WD 3,5" with powersupply WD3200H1Q-00 and this does not work.

-USB GX loader stops after the logo disapeers.

-The usb drives powersupply or something causes the screen/display picture to get a bitt fuzzy and act strange. If i unplugg the USB drive from the Wii, the display goes back to normal....
