Not really on topic, but you have a 4.3 wii, not 4.2. Follow the guide linked below.

You reported your Wii as being a new unmodded 4.2. The error 004 indicates that the Wii had been softmodded and an attempt to update to sytem menu 4.3 was at least started. If this is not the history that you expected, you should return that purchase. The store must have inadvertantly sold you a returned Wii as new. If your own atempts to mod have caused this scenario, then do as mauifrog advised and softmod your Wii using a 4.3 tutorial.

EDIT-I see you discovered what the kids did while you were out. Make sure to install Priiloader and enable the hacks that block game disc update and the online update. That should help protect the Wii a bit more.

Glad you are adding BACK UP NAND NOT OPTIONAL ---- Many guides say optional, but as we know backing up your Nand is one fo the most important parts of softmodding. It does not take long to back it up so why many people don't do it I dont understand.

When I goto Channels / SD Card it just shows a question mark in the first block I dont see anyway to load boot.dol

boot.dol is located on the root of sd card, using a 3.2U Wii.

    Any ideas appreciated.

I got rid of the no vulnerable ios issue by following the how to uninstall cioscorp guide, this Wii was originally modded with cioscorp (long time ago.) i believe the mod was called SoftMii.

    Thanks.

Strange. I am in exactly the same boat as you, but that guide did not fix the problem for me. It's good to be rid of cIOScorp, but I still can't update HBC.
So I thought to try this guide now, but the download files are set to private on Mediafire...

Thanks. But when I try to go to Channels -> SD card, my Wii freezes. I've been waiting for 3 minutes or so, but it doesn't want to do anything.
