Full hacking guide for 4.2 system menus!!!!

Right, the guide seems quite easy if you take your time and follow the steps carefully and slow enough to make sure you understand them.

Only 1 issue at the moment (I think) in that I've just tried a backup on NeoGamma on a rw+ format for testing purposes. Now either I've burnt at to high a speed, rw's are a big no, the +format is a no as I'm sure reading is the case as i'm getting a read 1101.

I know up the guide it states Verbs to be used, but is not any decent brands good enough as Ive some maxell's -r here somewere?.

Sozz, forgot I burnt a game on a maxell yesterday. Yup so all fine and dandy here now and could'nt be happier.

Just want to thank everyone on the scene who has made all this possable as we are 1 thankfull and greatfull couple to this splendid site.

doesnt work at all. did it all to the letter of the guide. and nothing at all. bootmii loads a fancy lookin screen and then does nothing. so had to pull the plug out n back in to reset. then when going into wad manager, tried all 3 of the file packs to remove the cios249 standard, and kept getting error on all 3 packs i tried. so went to cios loader, did what was said, and still kept getting error at the end before it reset the wii. im very annoyed as ive been trying this all damn night, and still nothing, proberly due to the fact im in the uk and the 4.2e stiffs us, whereas the 4.2u seems to have no probs at all. so if anyone can help, please message me. as its driving me mad not knowing what the problem is.

D6) You can also now run DOP-IOS MOD v7 to DOP ioses you want dopped (Not really necessary, dop ios70 if wiiware does not run, ios36 if you want startpatch hacks installed):
From HBC run DOP-IOS MOD. At the ios select screen, default should be 60, change it to 249
Next screen, select IOSs option.
Then select the ios you want to DOP.
Warning do not do this if you have preloader isntalled*
After that, you can also DOP ios36
select ios36 and press A on all three options to enable hacks on it. *Doing this may flip HBC upside down. I think this was corrected on HBC v 1.0.6, if not run DOP ios again and install it without the hacking options by pressing B*

I tried to DOP ios36 but whenver i hit the A or B button the screen turns into a black screen with frozen static like stuff. I thought i bricked but i restart and theres nothing wrong. Am i suppoed to just wait on that screen or what?

So, I just followed this guide, I'd like to say first of all, it is pretty clear and well done. Now, I just have a couple about this, sorry if these are really obvious or something like that.

First of all, it is completely legal for me to download a torrent of a game that I already own, right?

Second, if I want to play that game, how do I do it? Do I just burn all of the files from the torrent to a DVD-R, then put it in and run it with Neogamma?

And last, the guide said be sure to "scrub the update, and region free your backups". What exactly does it mean by this, I how do I do it?

Woot! Thanks muchly for the guide! I however have a problem I need help with..

I followed the first section of the guide to install Homebrew on my Wii and I have success in loading the program and viewing my apps.

However when I click on an app I see a bar quickly load followed by a black screen that occasionally flashes on the outsides. The apps dont seem to load and I am left with the screen until I turn my system off. I am modding a newer Wii with 4.2u installed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm gratefull for the virgin 4.2 steps all worked accordingly: my 20th wiihack now

Any game that have to use alt dol don't seem to work anymore? I get black screen, however I can play any other games that don't require custom alt dol.

EDIT: Use the "Update" feature in USB LOADER GX, it will bring it to new version 8xx and all works perfect! Nice features now to select dol

Do you still have the SD card you used for Step A resident in the slot? If so, remove the private folder and the boot.elf file from the SD and try again.

Technically, still not legal. Ethically, another matter.
You will typically download a game image file called ISO files in smaller archived and compressed files-the same rar files you used in this softmod. Use WinRar to extract and reassemble as a single ISO file. Use ImgBurn software at initial burn 4X onto Verbatim DVD-R discs. Preloader and NeoGamma settings take care of the automatic game update and out-of-region issues nowadays without having to scrub and patch anymore.
