    How to remove softmods and make your Wii a virgin

    I've put this guide together with the help of bsmalley23 to help people who want to get their wii back to an unsoftmodded 'virgin' state. Once completed you will have a clean Wii on sys menu 4.1.
    Channels are best deleted with AnyTitle Deleter as removing them in data management leaves traces behind and don't use the 'format' option on the wii as this won't delete what you want it to and could cause problems.

    Download Tools

    If you have an LU64+ Wii then do not try to downgrade! That means if you bought your Wii this year then do not downgrade!

    Warning: 4.2 users
    Install IOS60-64-v6174.wad before doing this guide

    A) If you are on system menu lower than 4.1 then the first thing you should do is use waninkokos 4.1 updater, this will get rid of a lot of mods and is the safest way to do it, if you are on sys menu 4.1 already then downgrade to 3.2 first with cios downgrader 1.2 then use wanins updater. DO NOT DO THIS IF YOU BOUGHT YOUR WII THIS YEAR.

    B) If you have preloader/dvdx run NAND Clean and it will go through all the files it's going to delete one at a time and ask you if you want to delete them, say yes to all of them. ONLY RUN THIS AFTER YOU HAVE UPDATED, IT WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS IF YOU HAVEN'T!

    C) Next load up AnyTitle Deleter, select IOS36 as the one it should run with and delete any IOS that has a number greater than 200. DO NOT DELETE ANY OTHER IOS WITH IT!

    Ca) Bootmii users should now run the installer and select 'uninstall'

    D) Still using AnyTitle Deleter go to 'installed channels' and delete any channels that you installed yourself, backup launcher channels, pirate wiiware, etc. Then delete the Homebrew Channel and you are done.

    Please let me know if there is something I have missed or something you think should be added...

    Just a quick note, I found that when I tried to take a Wii 4.0E that was softmodded and had HB,GC loader etc back to virgin using this method I couldn't delete any IOS using any title deleter. I also couldn't use Nintendo Server to take it back to 3.2E it kept throwing me back to main system screen. I had to use the folowing method which worked.

    Requisites:
    - Attached archive;
    - WiFi connection/LAN Adapter!
    - BannerBomb.
    - Your Wii MUSTN'T have a serial number starting with LU64 or LU65 (you can try, but it won't work). Use the HackMii Installer to install The Homebrew Channel, but you can't downgrade (yet).
    No cIOS required!

    1) Unpack the archive attached.
    2) Do a full backup of your SD card on the PC, and DELETE everything from the card.
    3) Copy BannerBomb to the SD card.
    4) Copy the content of the "SD Root" folder in the archive to the root of the SD card.
    5) On the Wii, launch boot.dol using BannerBomb, then go to "downgradetools" in the SD and choose notDVDX34.dol. Pick "Downgrade IOS35", wait for it to end and come back to the menu, then exit.
    - If it says that "you're a pirate" delete also all your VC/WiiWare pirated channels (with AnyTitle Deleter or WAD Manager), execute NandClean.dol, choose to delete "dvdx 3.4's gift" and try again grog.gif
    6) Launch PatchMii IOS Downgrader.dol, you may need to launch it from LoadMii 1 or 2 times, until it's completed wink2.gif
    7) When it says "IOS 249 (Rev 5) loaded successfully", install all of the IOSes except IOS35 (with trucha patch). If you want, you can also install System Menu 3.2 or 4.0, but MAKE SURE that its IOS has been installed correctly:
    - System Menu 3.2 requires IOS30;
    - System Menu 4.0 requires IOS60.

    Note: The cIOS that is now installed on your console doesn't have "backup loading" capabilities, use cIOS Installer by Waninkoko to get this. Or many of the other packages available.

    did you put the apps folder and the database.txt directly to the root of you sd card? is your sd card formatted to fat32? there is another way you can run those apps without having to use the hbc. to do so, format your sd card to fat32 and for example go into the anytitle deleter folder and put the files contained in there directly to the root of your sd card(only one app like that at a time) then go to wii settings, data management, channels, sd card, and it will ask you to load the boot.dol, click yes and the program will load the same as it would through the hbc. if you do it that way use nandclean first then do the same process for anytitle deleter.

    @cressida - why did you mess around doing all that? most of it was unnecessary, you should have asked for help in this thread.

    technically you dont need hbc installed. you can run those programs without it. check post #7 and i explain how. follow this guide just as it instructs you to but instead of loading nandclean and anytitle deleter through the hbc, load them the way i explained above.
